Looking for some thoughts on a few folders before I buy!

So, it's that time of the year, I need to buy a new knife! I'm taking a break from my fixed blade addiction to get a new folder. I've addictively researching some different options. And I've narrowed down my choices to:

Al Mar Sere 2000.
Benchmade Griptilian (not sure which one yet, I like the Sheep's Foot)

Which would you pick and why?

I'll likely get both at some point, but I can only swing to get one right now. I know the Griptilian is about half the price of the Al Mar, but pretend they cost the same.

Well?

Griptilian. Axis lock, better fit in my opinion. I have had a sere, and it had to much blade play for me. I didnt like the linerlock in it either. I think the griptilian is a better blade profile too.

I want a Benchmade Griptilian badly... I like Spydercos as well but my Delicas just look scary to some people (police included). I had one taken from them like a month and a half ago and I bet I will never hear from it again... I hope they don't fine me either!

Anyway, when I finally consider it just gone... I will get a colorful Griptilian, just for the hell of it. Probably pink or yellow... if anyone thinks that thing looks like a weapon instead of a tool, he/she is just nuts.

EDIT: Sorry, I was thinking abut a MiniGriptillian... do they make the full blown Griptillian in colors as well?

I love my full-size Grip (actually Ritter Grip). Excellent handle, great blade shape and the axis lock. Hands down my favorite folder. I only know Al Mar by reputation, which is generally good. It would help to know why you have narrowed it down to those two. I just think that as a general purpose folder for camping/survival/bushwork etc. the Grips can't be beat in terms of ease of use, quality of construction and of course price ;)

edit: The sheepsfoot Grip was my first quality folder. Still have it and use it. I just find the drop point more versatile.

im goin against the grain and saying al mar. never messed with a benchmade but i love some al mar. i have a shrike and the al mar liner lock is one of the only truely solid ones in the production market in my experience. either way good luck. -CB

I'd really like both. But, I just handled a Griptilian... and it bit me! About cut the tip off of my finger. So, I feel like I should buy it since I already have developed a relationship with it. The guy has had it for a while, and said he'd let it go for $60. Which is quite a bit cheaper than the Al Mar. But it is a partially serrated one, which I don't particularly like.

I recently got a full-size grip 551 in 154CM - it's simply awesome. The best deal in a large folder IMHO. The axis lock is amazing - easier and slicker than a linerlock but just as safe and tough as a lockback. Dump me in the wilderness with a single-blade folder and I'd probably pick a BM Grip 551.

just looked at the specs on the Sere 2000 - at 6oz that's a bit hefty for my preferences of what I want in a folder. The Benchmade full-size grip weighs in at almost half that - 3.25oz.

I don't mind the weight, I usually carry a Charge TTi, so I'm used to a lot of weight. And I want a hefty folder. Hum...

Do you guys prefer the sheeps foot of the drop point?
