Looking for Spyderco EDC Opinions

Neither one was under the tree this morning :( so I am back to making the decision for myself. I am leaning towards the GB. I don't know enough about XHP steel and I am assuming the GB lock will be stronger than the Manix 2. How are the ergonimics of the GB handle? The Tenacious and Manix 2 have a sort of contoured shape to them allowing you to really lever with them and as said before the Tenacious just fits. The GB looks a little less contoured as far as finger placement is concerned. I realize you can not tell me if it will be comnfortable for me, but does anyone have any experience with this line of questioning?

The GB is a work knife, no worries.
It will do as you ask.
Just do a couple of touch up passes on a Sharpmaker after every use and you'll be a happy man.

I would not consider a Millie. They're just improperly designed. They have a HUGE handle, meant for working with gloves on, but the blade is short. WTF? They fixed this design flaw in the new para 2s. About frikken time already. The millies are still the same. If you don't mind carrying a 4 1/2 " knife with 3 1/2" blade go for it. Think about how often you would NEED to keep your knife out with gloves on. Thin gloves don't count. They don't require any change of grip. I've field dressed about 50 deer up here where it's colder than hell most of every hunting season. I've never once worn gloves to do that.

Nope, there's nothing "improperly designed" about the millie. Yes, it does have a nice size grip and opening hole and can be used with gloves. It's very light ( except the all Ti version) and carries very well for it's size.

No, It's not a short blade, unbalanced, nor is it 3.5 inches. It's a nice long 4 inch blade that fits the handle well and cuts all day long. It's true it's not a pry bar though.

My guess is that G.G. is thinking of a different knife. The Millie is a true classic

However, the cf is just not as aggressively patterned for hard use. I personally think that if they put some peel-ply cf like on the s90v sprints or on the stretch II cf, it would make it a much more heavy duty folder.

I don't get how the style or surface of the carbon fiber grips make it, or keep it from being a heavy duty folder. It's the same knife that looks and feels a bit different but remains the same knife with the same capabilities. It feels great to me and has plenty of grip wet or dry, cold or hot. It makes no difference.

Yep, the Military is one of the best designed knives on the market IMO with that 4" long blade with a lot of belly and Distal taper.

I switch between 2 Militaries for my main EDC.

I agree the ergonomics of the handle of the Manix 2 are excellent. I really like the way it fits my hand. When it comes to shape and size, I think the Manix 2 is perfect for a real "work knife." Throw in all that jimping, and that bad boy isn't going anywhere (slipping out of your hand).

The GB's handle is more plain.... straighter contours without the choils or curves. But, damn the GB is just gorgeous and slicker than owl **it.

I really like BOTH of them and recommend not limiting yourself (if you can pony up the $$$). They each have their place - like all Spydies. Damn, I'm addicted!! :D
