Looking for Sticks

Hi Donna!

I tried Shannon, but he only has one pair left and I need to get 3 pairs.

Thanks nonetheless.

Dave.

Hi,
check out www.quick-stick.de , that´s the premier German area supplier of FMA equipment. They carry a line of sticks including flatstick combat sticks and other more exotic stuff, but the shipping costs to USA will be high, I suppose. They mention a US distributor on their site, his e-mail is jab3cse@icdc.com .

You might want to take a look at CaneMasters. They make some interesting hickory and oak sticks. You can get them round, slightly squared, or triangular for extreme damage to your opponent! I have the slightly squares ones made out of hickory. I chose hickory because the wood has been used for impact tool handles for decades, if not centuries.

Hi Dave,

Finally got the prices on the 1" X 30" Cocobolo sticks. The cost will be £30.00 inc postage and packing.

Let me know if you are intersted.

Bill

Where would I find a pair of Escrima Sticks?

Those are the ones people use as a pair for dualing with, right? Bout 2 1/2 to 3 ft in length roughly, very light, but durable enough to cause damage. Along with that, what are some books that might teach the useage of them, basics? Thanks

EVERYWHERE! Tons of places sell 'em online. Not to mention martial arts supply stores, FMA/IMA schools, etc.

Usually rattan, at least to start out. It's cheap and light. Length of the stick will depend upon the style of Arnis/Kali/Eskrima studied. In Modern Arnis, at the school where I train, we use 28" rattan.

One last word on sticks which should be thrown into the discussion. Most probably already know this (and a lot more).

If you're doing stick work with your teacher, it's probably not a good idea to use hard sticks which will damage the instructors sticks. This usually doesn't set well with them, but your mileage may vary!

I'd use rattan for these sessions. If you do a lot of stick work you probably have several sets anyway.

I'll bet there are some interesting training stories about damaged sticks and other equipment. Maybe a new thread...
