looking for sub $125 framelock

are the locks on the 200's really as thick as say the shallot or other kershaw framelocks?

so i think i've narrowed it down to the zt 200 or kershaw tyrade. Anybody own or seen them both and have an idea of which has a stronder/ thicker liner? any opinions on which would be a better knife for me?

I have the ZT200 and should get the G10 Tyrade soon.
The ZT liner is definitely the beefiest I have seen. It locks like a bank vault. This lock can definitely compete with many framelocks.
Now, when you'll pick up the ZT200 for the first time you will guaranteed get a stupid grin. But on the other hand I do think it's quite a heavy folder to EDC. Your mileage may vary.
If this thread is still active when I get the Tyrade G10, I can compare. The Tyrade's lock should be really good as well and it's priced reasonable. If you decide for the Tyrade, then think twice about choosing the nice orange G10. I have orange G10 on 2 other knives and I think it gets visibly dirty quick.

Otherwise, coming back to real framelocks: the Boker M type was mentioned above. It's actually really outstanding at the price. Very well made and an excellent lock. It doesn't have the latest, sexiest powder steel, but still its 440C is more than acceptable. It's a pretty light knife and its flatness makes carrying comfortable. And it costs a lot less than your budget (treat your SO on a nice dinner with the change, for example!).

Finally, another strong, compact framelock should soon see the light: the new Spyderco Sage variant with titanium handle and framelock. I expect it to be awesome. I expect the price to be around your budget, perhaps a bit more. This kind of lighter, more compact knife appeals more to me for EDC.

that low ride clip is sweet! thats been a huge turnoff for me is the high ride of some kershaws (like my leek). i am new to the forum and knife world so where/ how/ and for how much could i get one of those low ride clips? thx a ton guys!!

STR custom makes the clips from titanium. They run $30 plus shipping for most knives. Here's the order page., everything you need to know is there.

thanks flashpoint, i will likely be getting one of those. That spyderco sage is sweet, i had seen the cf version but never the titanium with framelock, where can i find more info about it and do you know the eta to the market on it? thx

Spyderco doesn't give ETA anymore, but it seems that this knife is pretty close to production.
In the spyderco forums you may find more about it. Otherwise, look at this video clip and start drooling...
BTW, here is a larger video with more info about the Sage 2, and about a few other hugely tempting upcoming Spydercos.

+1 on the Kershaw Shallot - great knife. I have the combo blade, with the cutting edge being ZDP-189. I think I paid around $100 for it. Very solid lock-up, and the blade is scary sharp. I also like the looks of Kershaws combo blades - the copper they use to bind the 2 metals together looks great. The AO makes this one feel like an auto - very quick deployment.

Don't forget about the Buck Vantage Pro - rounded G10 handles, S30V blade steel, low ride pocket clip, and all for around $60
