Looking for THAT knife....

I gotta say you sound like a guy in desperate need of a balisong. they are by and far the most fun knife out there.

aside from that an emerson karambit is tons of fun to fiddle with.

perrin la griffe la shark or trifold all lend themselves to being fiddled with.

the cold steel ti-lite is another one of my favoite knives to fondle.

maybe the epitome of non balisong knife fondling is a double action otf auto. HK makes a great one for under 200 dollars.

if i had to go with one it would be the balisong, however i fondle all my knives almost equally.

Variety is a good thing. :)
I have many knives. I am not looking for the best one any more. Actually, I have never looked for just one. I do not need one knife - I need many. So I would say that variety is not just good - it is a must for me. But if one day I lost the interest in knives and went for something else - then one knife would be enough. But would I care then what the knife were - any would do.

i have owned a balisong, they are fun but not so practical. I'm still looking for a decent price on a smf. but the zt 551 is looking appealing right now. even though i was trying to get a sample of other brands out there.

One knife that is "the One" ? Folder - Easy, for me. Hinderer XM18 3.5" Spanto (the Best Tanto) Flipper

If "it" hit the fan and I had to grab just one knife - that would be it.

I have two CRK's, a StarTac 'zaan and a small Sebbie... it aint one of them - I can go weeks without carrying one. My EDC has been a BM 755 MPR for most of the last year and a half... nope. My longtime love - Buck 110's - includes a beauty/keeper - a Buck Custom Shop 110 in flaming Koa wood - and with a teardrop Damascus blade... close. My longtime lust - finally fulfilled - a BM 630 Skirmish - even closer. That's the list of the closest contenders. As a dyed-in-the-wool 'knifeslut', it is hard to choose from those, my 'best' contenders... save one.

The knife that epitomizes 'The ONE' to me - I like everything about it - is the ZT-0551. I pick it up - and I can't put it down... open and close with one hand. It feels 'right'... and I can find no faults with it. I would lament it's loss more than any of the other knives I have, even the more expensive CRK's. Some serious self-searching would indicate that the others are superfluous - and should go. Maybe so, but did I mention that I am a bit of a hoarder, despite the fact that I don't save delivery pizza boxes??

ZT-0551.

Oops... I don't have a Ballisong... I do have a MT Ultratech D/E. Now, that's fun to pull out of the case and fiddle with... but, as a pocket knife, it slurps. ZT-0551... my 'ONE'.

Lately, CRKT/Onion ripple. Yeah, the Wal-Mart Cricket.
It's my first encounter with the IKBS; a flipper that seems to open like an assisted is just neat.
BM mini-grip. Nice size, the Axis lock is a contrast to the linerlocks that make up most of my collection.
My Buck Nobleman. Size, shape, blade and handle finishes all combine to make a subdued but attractive knife.

This one did it for me 5+ years ago. Strider RW-1.

I can't find one universal do it all mid sized blade. My BK-2 feels luscious with its Micarta but the knife is a touch too heavy for its size. My BK-5 is a sweetie but I'm a bit leery of going too hard on it battoning through tough wood because of the thinnish blade. My old Becker Brute is a double thick great chunk of leaf spring, loved, but it wants to pull my pants to my knees. My J.A.B. Potbelly is also on the heavy side but man it's a slicer\chopper for the size. All of these knives have similar or unique attributes that I found attractive and no tears would fall if I only had one of the group. And yet I'm wondering about the Becker BK-7 or the ESEE 6..... I can't even settle on ''one'' mid size let alone any other category. Usually the ''one'' for me is the latest buy. I'll fiddle around with it for X amount of time, then start looking for what's next.
:o

Favorite folder is the Darrel Ralph Gun Hammer, hands down. Love it! I would post pics, but then I'd spoil your fun googling and looking at the gorgeous customs he makes. But there is a more affordable Hand Tech Made version.

I think this hit the nail on the head. I am really interested in a strider smf, but at the same time I could be equally happy with 3-5 knives of less value. Looks like I need to spend even more time of the blade retail sites. Especailly because no shops by me carry any "decent selection" its almost sad.

i own both and the mini grip is nice but i like large folders. the zt 0300 has great weight, my para 2 has great open and closing smoothness and my dpx best 2.0 has the ti and a .187" blade on it. I'm really interested in the SMF because of the blade type, thickness and ti frame lock we all know and love. and weight of a knife to me at least is a positive thing

I will ADD to what I said and in no way contradict my earlier opinion, a must have IMO in any Great Collection ( and they are about to go away forever) is the - Acies.
It IS a "One of those knives" class knife.
