Looking for the best multi tool

Any of you wave owners noticed the snap on your sheath to be "light" or is it just a batch in my area.
Several people I know has had the same problem.

Interestingly enough, when the question of what tool people would take with them when SHTF, the Leatherman SuperTool was by far the hands down winner... it had twice as many votes as the Leatherman Wave, which in turn had more votes then the SwissTool. It is hard to beat the rugged utility of the SuperTool, although depending upon your needs the Wave might make more sense.

AJ -- Good point. My Wave has never let me down thus far, but in a survival situation, I think I might prefer a different tool. oNe perhaps a little sturdier, even if less user-friendly.

highrent1 -- I had that problem and called Leatherman. They sent me a new one without the snap problem and told me to hold onto my old one until the new one got here so I wouldn't be without a means of carry. Pretty cool, I thought. Give them a call.

Now if they just had horizontal carry sheaths...

The Wave (I believe) was used last night on X-Files, The Police guy used the pliers first, and then Scully, later, took it off him, opened the knife, like she uses it everyday, and went to work on his neck. What a woman! You could tell she has one herself!

The review on 'equipped.com' talks about the
sheath problem, and the newer style sheath.

Question, is there a newer model of the Wave out there now? The guy at the store seemed to be saying that last weekend.

Hey Mark,

How's the BM820 working out?

I saw that on the X-Files too. I meant to post about it, but it slipped my mind yesterday. Getting old.

Anyways, I am sure it wasn't a Wave but it was definitely a Leatherman. One of the older ones like a PST, PSTII, or Supertool. I couldn't tell in the brief time it was on screen and the dark lighting.

There are some new Leathermans that were shown at the SHOT show. One with a corkscrew, butterknife, and cocktail fork. Also, the Crunch, that has folding, locking pliers. Looks pretty cool. Check it out:

Hope this helps!

Clay: Horizontal you say? I have been using a horizontal mag holder from DeSantis gunhide for my Leatherman Super and/ or Gerber Multi- Lock for almost 3 years now. It fits snug and takes up only minimal room on your belt. It has 2 belt loops for fit up to 1.75 belt and uses a velcro flap. Construction is nylon and some elastic. All for about $10- $12 ea. It really works.

I own the LM SuperTool and I think it is a great tool with a high quality feel to it. The LM Wave looks even better, thinking of buying one. If you are looking for a lot of functions in a small package, nothing can beat LM Micra.
Does this qualify me as a LM freak?

Me for ST. Excellent quality, all tools lock, and fun to flip it open butterfly style. Micra rides in my jeans watch pocket and very useful, too. I am a most happy fellow. Okay, Leatherman!

Seems like the Wave and the Swisstool are tops. I just got a Wave and like it alot. It is very stiff though, needs breaking in. I really like the one handed knives. They do need to smooth up the opening holes, very sharp edges. It is very well made and has a nice leather sheath. Does anyone know the steel or steels used?
Thanks Bart

SWISS TOOL

A really good package, though somewhat heavy, it comes through in the uses very well, Reading the previous posts, SWISS TOOL is pulling ahead, as for breaking and having to replace something, I've used my fairly hard and have not broken anything yet, but if I did, the Victorinox company fully backs this and all their models up quickly.

SWISS TOOL...

Strangely enough, I have had a slight change of heart since I last posted on this thread.

I decided to get a SuperTool to use for hard outdoor use. I didn't intend for it to replace my Wave; rather, to supplement it. However, it is now the tool I use every day. All the tools lock, the tool adapter fits (I use alot of torx bits at work), and the handle is comfortable enough (not as much as the Wave, however). Furthermore, I feel this tool is significantly sturdier than the Wave. Presently using a Microtech SOCOM pouch as a horizontal sheath.

Looking forward to when the Crunch comes out, however....

After handling Letherman's Original and Wave, and buying SwissTool, my vote for SwissTool.
