I am looking for an camping/edc knife in the $100 to $250 price range. I want a 3 to 3.5 inch blade. I also want it to be under 3.5 ounces. Right now I am looking at the bugout but I would want some aftermarket scales which would make it a lot more expensive. I also like the para 3 lightweight but I’m not a huge fan of Spyderco’s designs. What other knives would you guys recommend?

I was just looking at the manix 2, which of the Spyderco blade steels would you recommend?
The G-10 models are over your weight requirement so that leaves the lightweight models.
So Cruwear, S-110V or the budget BD-1 varieties.
BD-1 is easy to sharpen, the other two are not so much.
But personally I like a challenge a so Cruwear would be my choice.

I normally carry a fixed blade when camping, but if I carry a folder it is the Manix 2 lightweight in BD1.

The regular Bugouts were not to my liking but the 535BK-2 is a really good knife with stiffer scales and it actually weighs fractionally less than the original Bugout. It's my EDC now (having carried a Mini-Grip for some years). I think you'll find it's great for about every task you can think of, especially in the slicing and carving end of things. Personally, I wouldn't baton with it but I have other tools if I needed to do that. You really don't need aftermarket scales for the 535BK-2. And to me, it's got beautiful lines if aesthetics matter to you.

I concur on the Manix.

I've found the S30V to be a little on the chippy side, so for camping I'd recommend something like Cruwear if you can get your hands on it. However, it's still quite good, and will serve you well if you don't hit it too hard on things.

BD1N is quite a good option too. You can even get them in Maxamet if you feel froggy. Spyderco's Maxamet is generally significantly tougher than other people's Maxamet.

I recommend the Buck 112 Slim Pro.
3" blade
2.6 oz
G-10 handle
S30V steel (with Bos heat treatment!)
Made in Idaho, U.S.A.
And only $85.00 dollars.

I like the standard scales on my bugout.
They work fine for me
If I need more rigidity, I take my g10 para 3

In your price and size range you have a lot of options

Spyderco para 3, PM2 or manix LW
BM Bugout or super freek
Giant mouse Ace Grand
ZT0562Cf

Buck 110 LW, Steel Will Resident, mora fixed blade are some that immediately jump out from the top of my head.. I own them all, love them all

I like my Bugout 535BK-2, with this one you do need to change the scales, I also like my new Mini-Freak with the carbon scales and the S90v blade but it is just out of your price range

For camping id stay on the cheaper side. To eazy to lose or damage the knife. I bring my RAT in AUS-8. Its a good pocket knife you can sharpen on a stone. If you lose it no biggy, walmart sells em cheap. The D2 version is better, but for a short trip AUS-8 is just fine imo

I agree with people telling you to use softer steels for camping knives. You want something that will roll an edge instead of chip or break.

So get a Mora for camping and the Bugout for edc if that is what you like.

For your consideration, the Hogue Ritter line is geared for outdoor use and IMO worth consideration. However, the full size is a bit heavier than you are looking for.

If you are going to do a lot of heavier work with the knife when camping, I would recommend consideration of a fixed blade if you don't already have one. There are quite a few reasonably-priced fixed blades in 1095 steel that are super tough and easy to sharpen. They get a little higher on the spectrum of 1095 knives, but I am a big ESEE fan for fixed blades.

I too am seeking the perfect EDC!!! I just ordered a ZT 0707 which has a 3.5 inch blade and weighs 2.3 oz.
It should be a great light carry. I have a Spyderco Ikuchi which is not a typical spydie and is a nice EDC that
runs on washers.
I really prize low weight and big blade combos. I hope the 0707 is epic.
