Looking for the right knife

Tbf the Terava blades are imo hard to beat at any price a great well HTed hard use steel that is easy to sharpen, great basic design and very tough.

They don't look flashy or have the latest steel but do what a knifes meant to do. Sometimes we over think things or want the "best" newest steels or pretty designs, but these are fantastic user knives.

A 110/140 and 240 Skrama and it's all the knife you really need but most of us love knives😏
The Skrama 200 and Jaakaripuuko 110 is in my Truck bag. It’s the perfect survival set up. 80CRV2 is an amazing steel that matches or outclasses a lot of the “super steels”.

A great combination! I've not managed to get a Skrama due to Terava not importing into the UK. I'd pay good money for one, great blade!

Another European brand I just remembered that has pretty decent stuff is Joker. One really interesting option foe you might be the joker ursus. It's very stout, almost impractical, but it works well enough. It's kinda like a shorter BK2 in that it's going to be really hard to break and it's decently high on the fun factor. While it's doesn't excel at cutting it is really high on the durability and cuts acceptably.

They have other models as well and I think most target your intended use.

BOS, face it, you are doomed.
Welcome to the quest.
Be warned, it never ends.
:)

I will apologize for not reading all 5 pages so if this was mentioned before….. oops

Instead of one knife for all jobs, another option is The Nessmukk Trio”
Folder, fixed blade & hatchet.
Quite popular here for years.

The trio isn’t written in stone.
More like Carrol Shelby’s comment on chilli not being an exact recipe but “a state of mind “

I like the looks of them but I have an Ontario 8689 and various machetes. Would a Skrama be redundant?

Not really. It's going to be quite different than the OKC 8689 and it's not a machete. Maybe somewhat comparable to a parang or gokok but still very different. IMO, the handle on the skrama is an entirely different, and much better, experience over the OKC 8689 even if you consider the intended use the same.

The skrama will be much more capable at finer tasks than the OKC, as one task to point out. Carving, feather sticks, etc. Still not great, but the OKC was pretty much good and chopping and hitting my knuckles on stuff (probably just me but the design of that bolo always seemed to bump the handle on stuff far more yhan my other choppers).

If you haven't done it yet, the OKC performs much better with a thinner edge than stock. Pretty much all of the spec plus knives come far to obtuse to perform well as new, at least all of them that I had. The skrama came ready to go with proper edge angles.

Hahah, Fully aware of how doomed I am. SO much advice and so many brands. I thinkt he perfect combination is A collection of at least ten fixed blades, Five folders, 3 hatchets, only to use the same crap knife in fear of damaging the good knives in the collection

OP: there is a great INFI Ratmandu in the Exchange for you (no connection with the seller, other than liking the knife).

Ratmandu:

BFK:

Steels are very comparable in performance (there are several comparisons on BF, including one by Nathan Carothers).
I can't find it. Don't seem to be able to navigate this forum correctly

Please exscuse my ignorance. The bald seems to be a flat grind from top to bottom and the selelr seems to be saying that it is a thinenr than usual version. Does this make the blade less strong compared tot eh suggested knives such as the BFK ?
Sorry my keyboard was set to another language

There are two Ratmandu versions, flat and Sabre ground. The flat ground one is a better cutter, better in the camp kitchen, etc. I doubt you can break either.

Here are the two versions (mine have wood scales):

INFI is very robust - search BF and you’ll see. It has about 8% chrome, so maintenance is minimal. The BFK has a Sabre that starts a little higher, kind of in between the two.

The biggest difference in use between the Ratmandu and BFK is the choil and lanyard. Some like it, some don’t.

If you like the choil the knife offered is great !

Your are gorgeous ! Really like that Sabre grind though

I've been able to fins some FK2s. Seems to also respond to my demands. perhaps a bit smaller than BFK. What do you think of this knife?
The FK2 was my first CPK and I will NEVER sell it. Amazing knife that I am sorry to say I kinda beat on….it doesnt care. Honestly though I will buy the BFK just to leave mprecious to more refined and dignified tasks.

Edit to add also my son in law carried my FK2 on a night hike the other night and fell in love with it. Knowing me, while I will never sell it I can see me giving it to him …..

I love it. To be honest, 4.5" blade length is the most useful there is; not as sexy as a larger knife, but all you'll ever need in practice. Go for it !

messaged the guy. Is it normal practice to sell a CPK for way over its original price? I'm assuming so being that their so hard to find but I don't want to be ripped off either.

Seems like a fair price to me. They aren’t making them anymore so supply vs demand and all that.
