Imperial was perfect for this, their shell construction Jackmaster Barlow was practically the American equivalent of the Opinel, but they're no longer made here. There's a whole industry for "novelty knives" in the 3 to 5 dollar range

Minus the combat my grandfather pretty much enjoyed his time in France and the bar he ran with his brother, that is until he got drunk on a train and woke up in Paris. The key to enjoying France is to stay out of Paris.
I really like the look of those Dexter Russell knives, even though they don't fold.

I don't think there are any such knives still made in the US.
The closest thing I know of would be the case mini blackhorn which can be hand with many different company advertisements on the handle.
is there an American option that is similar? Foldable, wood handle, 2.5 to 4 inch blade, lower price.
I think that's a winner. The Case Sodbuster Jr is $10.00 or so bucks more expensive than a number 8 Opinel, but is U.S.A. made and non-scary and similar in size.
I'm not where you are finding a legit case sod buster jr for that price. Try double. The Case Sodbuster Jr is $10.00 or so bucks more expensive than a number 8 Opinel, but is U.S.A. made and non-scary and similar in size.
