I think this is the right forum for this, but if it isn't I apologize and ask that the mods either move the thread or delete it.

I am curious about a sales thread I have listed; it has a fairly large number of views but only one comment. That baffles me a bit and I am left wondering what it is that I've done wrong (with the sales thread). The prices listed are considerably less than the amount I paid for the knives and sheaths, but I'm wondering if my prices are still out of line. I think I've done a good job with the descriptions and the specifics of each item and I have not misrepresented any of the items (if they're used - I note it). I don't think the problem is the pictures - as I've given several pictures of each knife and the thread has a good number of views.

The link (to the sales thread) is in my signature; if you'd care to give your thoughts on why the thread has a good number of views but no real interest, I would appreciate it.

Should I pull the thread and start over again? If so, which changes are needed and why?

It might be a case of information overload with that many for sale in one spot, but I think it's more likely that you just posted over labor day weekend while a lot of us were busy.

Thank you for your input. I hadn't considered the possibility of information overload and I'm not sure what to do about it (if that is the case). I did consider the holiday aspect, but assumed that the number of views was enough to disregard that one. Perhaps I should just leave things as they are and see what the week brings?

I think the fact that you're selling custom knives may be what's causing it. There just isn't as big of a secondary market for them at that price point than say, a Bark River knife, so it might take a while to find the right buyer.

They're nice knives, and the listing is good. The problem, if you call it that, is 2 fold: custom knives, especially bushcrafty style knives, have a narrower market. Also, the $$ amounts are higher. Not for the blades you have necessarily, just in general. Higher priced knives will take longer to find interested parties.

Keep in mind, you might have to take a 40% or higher hit selling a knife, even a custom. Bummer, but true. If these were true collector items, you can demand top dollar, but they aren't. You might need to review your prices again (I have no idea if they're priced right, but I'm throwing out the suggestion), and make appropriate adjustments down.

Best luck.

I think you have something there.

Thank you for your input. I am giving heavy consideration to your thoughts.

You've got some really nice knives....love the custom bushcraft/survival knives personally. However, it has been my sad experience that what was posted earlier is true....you'll probably take a 30-40% hit in selling them because they aren't collectors items. They're from great makers, but bush knives don't tend to bring a premium in resale.

I think the description and photos are great.
Not sure about the prices as I'm not informed enough on the value of those knives.
The only nit pic I would have is the pics took forever to appear on my computer.

Your terms are right up front and easy to understand.
You spell out exactly how to get in touch with you.
I like how you present each knife with price and basic info followed by plenty of nice clear photos.

I think it's a great sale listing. I give it a solid "A".

As for the prices, I am not familiar with any of the actual knives, or the makers, in your thread. It has been my experience that virtually anything with a fair price will sell here, it's just a matter of time.
If they don't get any play in 2 weeks, maybe you should consider a "Gamblers Sale"?
I actually got more than I originally asked for using this method. Start a little high, and let the chips fall where they may.

I looked at your listings. I am familiar with Adams work and he does not get the credit he deserves in my opinion.

Prices are fair but the problem is that it also is getting late in the season and most of us have already spent our money on our outdoor knives and gear for the year. Please don't give his stuff away. Hang tight if you have to. I also make knives part time and everything I made was flying out the door as fast as I could make them about two weeks ago everything kind of slowed down sales wise.

Some guys stuff just fly out the door all the time but lesser known guys stuff tend to linger a bit. Good luck

Thank you for your input. I'm sorry about the long loading times. I probably should've used smaller sized pictures.

Thank you for your input. I love your idea and am probably going to implement it into the sales thread.

Thank you for your input. I agree that Adam doesn't get the recognition he deserves.

Well, you certainly got a lot more people to look at your ad. Mission accomplished.

Thank you for your input.

Unfortunately, my goal wasn't more views as I had something like 1349 views prior to posting my request for feedback. In fact I was very satisfied with the number of views the thread had prior to this thread. If we assume that all subsequent views are the direct result of this thread, then I've gained an additional (roughly) 150 views but no action. So despite the additional views, my concern remains the same: what needs correction?

If anything the issue is more glaring than it was prior to posting this thread - as there are now (roughly) 1500 views and only 1 action (which took place prior to this thread being posted). Were it a mere problem of not enough views - I'd simply post a give-away thread and count on people clicking the link in my signature. I'm fairly sure a give-away thread would draw a lot more attention than this thread will.

As it is now, I still don't know if there is a problem or not. I believe that I've been given some very good advice though and I appreciate the responses to my request.

Why must there be a problem because your knives don't sell. There are a lot of knives for sale on here that don't sell. I have knives that don't sell. There is a mod that posts the same knives for sale every 2 weeks that don't sell. There is nothing special about your knives not selling. Can you imagine if everyone made a thread in GBU every time their knives don't sell.

I asked if there was a problem with my listing. I don't know if there is a problem or not - hence the reason I asked others for their thoughts. If there is something I should've done differently/better - but don't know what it is - how else would I learn if I don't ask?

I'm not the only person who has asked others for their input on an advertisement; in fact major corporations do that very thing quite frequently. Sometimes it just doesn't work for whatever reason(s) and the person/company advertising the product needs the input (of others) to make any possible corrections.

On a side note - such a thread could potentially help a lot of others create an effective listing as well. I know I have learned quite a lot from threads in which someone dared to ask questions.
