I'm interested in customizing a zt 0300, And I need all of your help for ideas and inspiration.

I've heard they are able to be wave modded. My question is how safe is it to use the wave feature with the spring assist? Is it recommended to remove the spring assist with this mod, and if so are there any drawbacks?

I'd also love some pics/ideas on regrinds and custom scales.

Pointing me toward people who can do these mods would be great.

So please show off your custom zt's! Thanks in advance everyone!

The only way to do the Wave would be with keeping the Speedsafe.
The 030X series has no detent, it won't work correctly with the Speedsafe removed.
I wouldn't use a wave on a knife with an assist but that's just me.
I guess it would be the ultimate fast opening knife lol.

^^ Adding to above post.
The reason I wouldn't do it is because both mechanisms were made for speedy openings, and if the knife had a wave it would defeat the purpose of the speedsafe.
Also it has a flipper for the speed mechanism, just as simple and fast as a wave if you ask me.

Mods I would look at:
*DLC removed from lock side, polished, and flamed.(Or blasted and flamed if you don't want brighter colors)
*Custom Scale(s).
*Get a regrind with the good belly but no recurve and maybe make the grind a little more flat. Then you'll have a beast that can slice like butter.
*Flamed Ti Low Rider Clip.

As far as who can do these things, Tom Krein does excellent regrinds, and STR does amazing ti clips. For scales I would look at Kryptoglow if you want good quality but cheaper, I'm sure he could/would do the 0300. Or Peter R. makes some really great scales.

As for the flaming, I'm not sure.

Now all of these mods are things I think would make the knife nicer(it's already gorgeous). You will want to look into your own ideas, or take mine and spin yours off of those lol.

Here is one of my 300 series. This one was done by a great friend, and great grinder, here from BFC, on the other side of the world from me. Enjoy.

Nice ideas here. I guess I'm looking for the best of both worlds in a flipper and wave in terms of quick deployment. It would also just be a fun project knife. I am a. It worried about the AO with a wave tho, but people say the AO isn't very aggressive on the 0300. Thanks for your advice/input

That's a pretty aggressive regrind. It's a totally new blade at that point. The work looks top notch!

If anything, assist would make the wave more reliable. In case you fumble a draw and don't generate enough force to get it to fully deploy, the assist will do the rest of the work for you.

I have waved 2 300s and 1 200. I prefer to remove the AO.

The AO on that model kicks pretty hard and I prefer the control of operating my knife. Here is one I double edged and left the AO intact per the customers request.

I contacted Tom krein and unfortunately he is no longer doing regrinds. Does anyone know of someone else that can do similar work? Putting a flat grind on the 0300 specifically?

I have never been able to get an email response from tuffthumbz which is too bad because I love his work. I guess he's just too busy.

I have my 0300 coming in the mail. The 3 main mods I'm hoping to do are wave, regrind/reprofile the blade, and remove the coating on the titanium handle. Since krein is not regrinding at the moment and I haven't been able to find any options to help remove and flame the handle I may try to just do it all myself. Disaster incoming haha.

If anyone else has reprofile pictures of the 0300 please share! Thanks.

Tuffthumbz responds to texts pretty well. His number is on his site, I'd rather not post his number on here though. He will usually text back within the hour, you can also call him.

Bought these from a member trix real cool,& it matches the knife very well
