Looking into getting a pen?

I use a Parker Jotter that has a cap that slides to activate the pen (not a twisty). I use the Parker refills. I don't like the Fisher refills as they are blobby and skippy especially the colored ones. The Jotter comes in 2 diameters and several materials: Gold, Gold plate, Sterling Silver, Titanium, stainless steel, and stainless & plastic. Every time you activate the pen, the refill is rotated 1/4 turn. This evens the wear on the ball socket.

You may like some of Matthew Martin's pens, they are kind of similar to the LionSteel. Check out Monkeyedge.com or knifeart.com for more ideas.

I like the Fisher refill and use one in a Ti-Bolt. I wouldn't recommend the Fisher for writing a novel, sipping tea and journaling, or writing for the pleasure of writing etc. For taking notes etc. the Fisher is great. It's a bit blobby during the summer months but it writes well in the cold. Overall the Fisher fits my needs well. Others to look at would be the Schmidt EasyFlow that others have recommended or the Parker QuinkFlow. In any case if you get a pen that takes Parker refills you should be able to find a refill you like with a little experimentation.

For anyone who might be interested, here are a couple of photographic examples of what I tried to describe in words above.

A Fisher Space Pen refill with and without the adapter and A Schmidt Easy Flow 9000.

One of the variables I mentioned is that the barrel of the Schmidt is a little wider than the barrel of the Fisher. In most cases this isn't an issue but it does depend on the individual pen being used.

It would be helpful if manufacturers would state whether or not the adapter is used when they state that a pen accepts Fisher Space Pen refills. It would help eliminate some of the guesswork in cases like this where the customer wishes to use a different refill. Having said that, I'm lead to believe that most pens do require the adapter. The original Space Pen itself being one exception.

This is what BladeHQ responded with

BladeHQ said:
Thank you for your inquiry. This pen uses the Fisher Space Pen refills which means it can take any refill that is 3.5" long. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Thank you,

The only Fisher I have is at work but here's a Schmidt.

Like I mentioned earlier, the Fisher adapter extends the Fisher refill by about 3/8" so it must be right at 3 1/2 inches without the adapter. Judging by the response from BladeHQ, it looks like the Schmidt is too long for that pen.

I prefer fountain pens as I write a lot and they won't cramp up your hands. I also prefer how you can get really dark ink for them. I have a couple of preppy's that a dirt cheap and a Conklin I got for Christmas. Check out the perppys or a pilot metro or varsity if you wanna check out fountain pens

Yeah, I'm a fountaineer, myself. If you go this direction, try out the Pilot Varsity disposable pen. Good way to start. Some of us might also teach you the secret to refilling them, too! 😜

I have a nice CRKT I gave $50 or $60 for and I like it. However, my edc pen is a Parker Jotter. Lot less money so it doesn't hurt as much to lose one, and it's a good writer as well.

I went to the office supply store to pick up a spare Jotter, but I could not find them with all of the regular pens. Turns out that you have to look in the expensive pens section, with the Cross pens. The old steel Jotter that I could get for $5 is now $15 to $25.
