Looking into liquid nitrogen, where to get it?

I used to get a thermos of the stuff at the local welding shop, but they've stopped doing that. I have an old 60 day tank, but it's about a 6 gallon capacity tank and the vacuum is gone, so it only last about 40 days or so.

I live not too far from Hattiesburg, and so far the only place I know that has it is Airgas. I'll call them in the morning and see if I can get details.

Anybody have a source for it? What's it going for per liter?

Since I couldn't get liquid nitrogen I managed to find the only dry ice dealer in Hattiesburg and used the dry ice/acetone trick, but at 3$ a pound that can get expensive quick.

I get mine from airgas, it's like $30-$35 for 10 liters. I can also get it from Praxair, but it twice as expensive, and they are harder to deal with, at least at my local store.

Try looking up Artificial Insemination in the yellow pages

Then call and ask for their local supplier

yep, find the guy who sells bull semen. I bought a used dewar from him and he comes and fills it for me for less than the welding supply.

3$ a liter? Ye gads, I know it's been a few years, but it used to be only about .10 cent a liter! Airgas can suck it at those prices, that would cost me 70-80$ to fill the tank I've got. I actually say a system a guy built to make his on, seems like a weird set up, but it only cost about 500$ to make from spare parts and eBay, but it only produced about a milliliter a day.

I'll see if I can find a Select Sires around here, a lot of the cattle farming has move away and AI was only really popular around here with dairy since it's easier to watch and AI them since you have them in a stall twice a day. Most dairies have shut down in these parts.

Ask around in Universities.
Bio departments and many other sciences as well use scores of liquid nitrogen. I used it to flash freeze samples.
I don't remember the price but that I don't kind of indicates that it wasn't anything crazy. Often they have some discarded vessels as well.

I must be lucky, I get it for $0.30 per liter. I can get my 30 L dewar filled for just under $10. But to answer your question, call welding supply shops, livestock breeders/inseminators, & medical supply businesses.

Dry ice is $1.49 a pound at Publix supermarket in my area. Go to Penguin Dry Ice and punch in your zip code. Wal Mart supposedly has it too.

I can't even buy water here for 10 c / L

Where are you getting it Darrin? I called and talked with Airgas and they charge 4$ a litter. I noticed your down in LA, for that price I'd be worth it to drive down and fill my tank.

Airgas in Alexandria but there is one catch. They don't actually fill it here. They send the dewar to Lake Charles on one Wed. & the delivery truck brings it back the following Wed.. I can deal with it though, considering the price.

No kidding, I would fill my 60 day tank with no problem like that. I'm looking into some of the AI breeders, they used to run a truck to fill tanks, if I can get ahold of one of them it should be a lot cheaper. The airgas up here acted like they didn't want to sell liquid nitrogen.
