Looking to buy a forge

Hey all,

I'm looking to buy a pre-built forge and am looking for some opinions. I know I could build one myself but with all the projects I have going on right now I just don't have time. I'd like to have about a 4x4 opening and a pass-through in the rear. My main use for it would be making some Damascus billets and San mai. I'd also like to stay less than $600. Let me know if anyone has a prebuilt forge and your opinions on it. Thanks!

Thanks for the quick response Stacy. I have a question, I read through your review of Charles' graham forge and was wondering what the actual size of the opening is. I see that it is oval that I'm assuming is 5 inches wide, but how tall is it?

I think the front opening is 4" x 2", with a 3" x 1" rear opening. Not really a welding forge, though. With the insulating firebrick construction that is allergic to flux, it works fine but is more of a "forging" forge. Something like the Budget forge would be better, with an open front and rear, Kaolite floor, big 100K burner aiming straight at the billet. I'll be making a couple more of them next week, if you're interested.

Thanks for the reply Charles. Go ahead and set me up with a budget forge. PM me and I'll give you my info.

Hey Charles are the fittings the same on the 30k burner and 100k burner?

I have the atlas mini and would like to build another forged for welding. Could I buy a 100k and use my regulator?

Edit to add, I'm amazed at how efficient the mini is, great design.
