Looking to buy a new knife and need advice.

At the risk of being an interloper, 2 of the 3 blade steels you selected are 400 series stainless. May I suggest Al Mar mini SERE 2000 the blade is uber tough VG-10 and is a top quality knife. Street price ~$140 or a Kershaw Blur in S30V ~$90 and as mantioned b4, get a sharpmaker with it.

Id personally recommend any Benchmade knives with an axis lock thats within that price range, especially the 710 or a mini griptilian. Outstanding knives and I'm a fellow New Yorker so I know what yer dealin with. haha

At the risk of staying close to your comfort zone . . .

I appreciate this. I was checking out some of the nicer Gerbers too, but for whatever reason Buck just doesn't really appeal to me anymore. Unfortunately I lost my old one...gah.

Each knife company has its own particular serration design. In my opinion, the scalloped-style serrations used by Kershaw/ZT are superior to the competition. These serrations are efficient cutters and are easy to sharpened (and one can get them very sharp). The geometry allows the knife to repeatedly hit material substrate with sharp edges as you draw the blade across, as opposed to other serration designs which only seem to tear at and snag on the material.
