Ive finally convinced myself to take the plunge and purchase my first Sebenza. Im wanting an Insingo , I thought Id start with the small version. My question is for reccomendations or opions on the plain .. CF scale .. or the Micarta inlays? Ive not had the opportunity to handle each so any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

This might be better to post in the CRK forum. As for as the inlays, I have never held a cf one but I really like the wood.

If you haven't been able to handle any, you could make your choice off what you like more for your hand because these are fairly small knives.
The Small 21 is a slim knife and doesn't really fill a hand. The Small Micarta might have a better feel/grip in hand than the CF scale because the inlays add width.

However, I think the Insingo cf scale looks gorgeous. Honestly you can't go wrong with either. If you are unhappy you can always return your knife and get the other or a larger model :)

The inlays are strips....grip improvement is actually provided by the space between and edges of the inlays rather than the inlay substance itself as with a solid scale, therefore you don't run into the usual "too slick/slick when wet" detriment of carbon fiber.

If you like the CF better, get it. Not sure if the inlay thickness is the same for CF and micarta. The micarta strips may be a bit thicker.

My plain large 21 is by far my favorate knife. I thought it was a bit too plain in the beginning, but as each day passes I appreciate its simplicity more and more. I actualy ordered it twice. The first time I placed the order I literaly felt sick to my stomach and had to cancel it just to get some sleep. I told my self I would wait and if I still wanted it I would order it in a month. I think I waited maybe 2 weeks, and now I couldn't be happier.
As to inlay/ plain/ or cf, only you know. Just don't underestimate the plain ti. The marks mine and scuffs on them really give them character.

If you normally carry 3.5"+ blades, get the large insingo. Reason I say that, is if you're gonna spend that kind of money, then get the whole package. If you normally carry blades less than 3.5", then get the small.

As for inlays, get what appeals to you; they are all they same quality. I prefer the micarta since it gives a "warm" feel to the knife. But that's just me...I'm also a sucker for micarta:p

The micarta is good for a work/user knife, but it can look pretty classy too...
Just look at that sexiness!!!;):D

Although I agree that I like the plain probly the best, for the small, having inlays could be nice because of the size of the handle like others said. Id personally go with plain or wood, but many seem to like micarta a lot also! Are you set on a small?

Im not set in stone on the small, I think I will actually end up with both .. but thought I might start with the small. And that was my worry a small might feel better with the inlays. I love micarcta and Ive never owned a CF so Im unfamiliar with it. I own some ZTs and Kershaws with Ti or Aluminum scales I dont mind the feel at all, and I think the large would fill my hand enough even without inlays but wasnt sure about the small version.

Hope to see you in the CRK sub, regardless which one you choose. My first was a small plain Jane and a few Sebenzas later I've ended up with a small micarta 21 and a CF damascus small 21. The CF is the one I carry most, but mostly because the micarta is newer (to me). The CF scale is awesome. Rigid, grippy, and easy to look at. Wears in really well too. Micarta is going to be hard to beat as an inlay IMO. Mine is still very new to me but I can see why so many people like it. Definitely feels good in the hand. For your first, I'd recommend the plain Jane. A plain Jane wears differently for everyone, almost no two used plain Janes will look the same after a few months. That's the beauty of it. You get a plain, standard version of a knife, that will eventually be unique to you. If you really want to get the micarta or full cf scale versions, you can't go wrong with either, just keep in mind that the micarta inlaid one is probably going to be more comfy in hand.

Thanks for all the feedback .. I may lean towards a plain or the CF model for the small it will be carried more when something a bit more discreet is needed anyway so the smaller lines may be best . I appreciate everyones suggestions . When I pull the trigger and order it Ill try to post a few pics. Thanks again.

My first Sebbie (another soon to come) was the large plain Insingo. You'll love it. It's not nearly as big as you would believe. I second the suggestion to get the large if you're used to carrying a 3.5"+ knife.

yeah, theres just something about them catch my eye .. and Im positive theres a large insingo in my future also .. but had thought maybe a small first .. too many pics may get me to jump on the large first .. lol .. I usually carry a bit larger knife EDC I like something that fills my hand .. but there are the times its hard to carry a larger knife so I have some that fall in that 3"range. I guess it may come down to whats in stock on the day I order.

I just got my first sebenza with inlays, I got the Micarta on a small sebenza. I have resisted getting the inlays because to me, they look like an after thought. The beauty in these knives is their functional simplicity. Get the plain one first and decide how you like the knife. If you like it and just want a little fancier look, sell yours plain one and move on up. They keep their value really well.

The small sebenza works really well for EDC
