you should look for the knife supply closest to you to save on shipping, were do you live?
 
You can try Alpha Knife Supply, U.S.A. knifemaker Supply, Jantz, the New Jersey Baron, and if you live in Canada Canadian Knife Maker Supply.

The two I've used and had good luck with were NJ Steel Baron and Alpha. Never tried any others.

I live just south of Boston, and I was looking at 3 types of steel, O1, 10-series and 5160. I am also looking for something forgiving since this would be my first attempt at blade making. I am also looking to do an oil quench.
