its a 28-203, rockwell international, which I think is Delta. The seller is asking 180 OBO, have not taken a look at it in person yet though, but do you guys think its worth the asking price based on the pictures?

Does he have the table for it? If it runs/tracks well and has the table, I'd offer him $160.

Upper blade guide is missing also.If all the parts are not there it is not worth 50 bucks.

Good old made in USA saw! My father has one just like it and I'm pretty sure you can get parts for it. It is a wood saw but could be slowed down for metal. It is worth the price!

Here's where you can get all of the replacement parts that you may need. If the guides are missing, then it is best to get the carter guides. Guides cost quite a bit though.

I have the exact same saw that I bought at auction (for too much). It was missing guides, and I have put at least another $200 into it. The saw will run at about 2850 fpm, too fast for metal. It's not too easy or cheap to change the gearing to work with metal. Ideally, to cut steel, you would want the saw to run at about 180 fpm or slower. That's almost a 10:1 slowdown, which requires a jackshaft or Reeves drive to do correctly.

I'm slowing mine down. I picked up a 2 hp DC motor for about $100 (at least an $1800 motor) on ebay. I just received the pulleys, bearings, etc so that I can run it variably at speeds between 2800-fpm down to about 80-fpm.

The Rockwells' are great saws . . . made when American manufacturing meant quality. It will last a lifetime. A comparable Delta will cost almost $1,000.

Good luck,

Mike L.

Exactly where is it at and how do you contact the seller ?
Just kidding The OBO could possibly be had at a great price.
looks like a good buy to me.

Way too much for a saw in that bad of condition. I see saws in that 14" range go on Craigslist in almost new condition frequently. Be patient the right saw will come along. I used a 40:1 gear reduction on my Powermatic 20" bandsaw with a 4 step pulley system and it works great. It takes a minute or two to change the belt, but I can cut stainless and slab Desert Ironwood logs on the same saw and it's made in the U.S.A. rock solid. I also have a 14" Enco woodcutting bandsaw, it's a piece of junk. It's for sale $30.00 and it's yours.

You want to take a look at the wheels/rims on this saw. Is the rubber worn out? Are the rims cast aluminum (shudder) or (hopefully) heavy cast iron? Try running it under power. Tension the heck out of it and see if the frame distorts or the tracking goes out of whack. Not a bad deal if parts can be found cheap and the saw itself is solid.
