Long story short my dad and mom used to be metal detector group presidents in northwest louisiana back in the 90s-93ish. I was about 9 or 10 when my dad brought this home. He found it metal detecting in louisiana. I have no idea where or how. I just know he has had it since. I took a few low quality pictures but i cannot find it anywhere. Please help me identify it. I know nothing about knives and i am not looking to sell it. It is my dads. I just want to know an answer because we have both been wondering for years. Any help is appreciated. ( he is a retired firefighter of 38yrs and I am a operating room circulator RN)

Edit. : other than the words and the skull and crossbones there are no other markings that I noticed

Well Lousinana was part of the Spanish empire for about 40 years in the late XVIII century until 1801. Not sure if that time period fits with the condition the dagger was found in. The inscription is of course in Spanish and it means "The long knife". the skull and crossbones lead me to believe this was a Masonic ritual dagger. What material is the handle made out of?

yes. I am a travel nurse on assignment. I can see if my dad can manage the photos and uploading to his computer. I can teamviewer them from there. I can have them this weekend by sunday

Pretty cool thing to find though. Unless it's haunted. That would be not so great.

No it wouldn't but it would help the value considerably on fleabay. Slap some mud on an old doll you bought at a yard sale and spooky it up = cash for a nice night out. ;)

Be interested to see quality pictures. As is, nearly all details are lost.

I will be finishing this travel contract in a week. I will be home then to get better pictures. I WILL update then
