Looking to Learn in Austin TX

I have always been fascinated by the art of blade smithing, and I would love to learn the craft. I am looking for someone to teach me the ropes. I am more than willing to help out in what ever way possible around the shop. I am a hard worker and I don't complain. I work a 9-5 and occasionally need to travel on weekends, but I am ready to dedicate whatever spare time I have to learning this.

Let me know if you are willing to give me a chance!

Look up Jonny Stout in New Braunfels. He teaches classes and occasionally has "grind ins" at his shop. It will cost you money but it is well worth it. I'm kinda in the same place you are. I want to learn but I don't have a shop. I've been making a few kit knives when I get the chance. If you want to get a coffee and talk knives, send me a PM.

Check out Texas Knifemakers Guild on Facebook. We've got a few guys in the Austin area. I know of one in Buda and one in Jarrell, and that's just off the top of my head.

There are blacksmithing classes at Austin Community College. I know at one time they wouldn't let you make a knife, but the skills you learn in general forging will apply to forging blades.

Once you do learn, you'll probably want to change your user name.:)

I've talked with several people who have taken classes with Johnny Stout and they all have had great things to say about what they learned with him.
