Looking to replace my s30v Kershaw Blur

I really liked my Kershaw Blur. Unfortunately I let a coworker borrow it and he used it to try and cut through metal straps :grumpy: So the edge is destroyed and I don't have the experience or time to sharpen it. Om too of that, the tip broke off when said coworker attempted to take screws out with the tip. Lesson learned, never let coworker borrow a knife. Anyways, the Kershaw Blur in s30v is about $75 shipped.

What I'd like to know is, is there another knife out there that is in the same ball park that's more bang for your buck? My current collection includes:
-Spyderco Paramilitary 2
-Spyderco Manix 2
-Spyderco Native 5
-Spyderco Delica 4
-Spyderco Techno
-Buck 110
-SAK Fieldmaster

I was considering a benchmade mini griptillian, but after holding it I was turned off by the plastic. Maybe someone can talk me back into it or suggest another knife?

I really don't like tantos and recurves which is ironic because the Blur is a recurve but very very slight which is why I didn't mind; I also don't like traditional folders (only have Buck 110 because it's a classic).

The budget is 75, and I'm hoping for a higher grade steel than aus 8 or 8cr. I really disliked my cold steel recon, i didn't like having to really whip it open with such a loud thwack, as I prefer to be a bit more discreet and no scare people!!

Other than that I'm very open to suggestion. I'm right handed, I carry my knives tip down although I don't care too much, I don't want black blades and for reference, I think my manix 2 g10 is the most comfortable knife I own.

Thank you for your help!

You know, just spit balling here but ... you could spend $10 and get a blade replacement from Kershaw. They also sharpen for free if you dont want to do it yourself. You just have to send the knife in to them and they will sharpen it and ship it back free of charge.

I agree with this. Even if you buy a new knife send it in to Kershaw for a new blade. If nothing else you can recoup some of the money you just spent.

Take a look at the s35vn link from house of blades. I've got one of the original blackwash versions and with the upgraded steel it is a pretty nice option if you dont mind pushing the budget up to $80.

I wasn't aware of this, but I don't have the original box or any paperwork and I also deassisted my Blur which I feel would void the warranty

KAI is pretty cool about things like this. I mean they send out torsion bars for people to install... I wouldn't be surprised if they took care of you no problem.

Doesn't matter. They send out torsion bars. Taking your knife apart does not void the warranty. Contact them and they will take care of you.

Agree with the others above, give KAI customer service a chance.

As far as your question.....pick up the Kizer Vanguard Gemini flipper in VG10 for 80 bucks. Awesome value, IMO.

Haha Kershaw ain't your average knife manufacturer. They do warranty work on all sorts of knives, regardless if you took it apart, de-assisted it, put custom scales on it, broke the blade in half, fed it to a mountain lion, etc. ;)

Kershaw blade replacements are $10 on current models and FYI, ZT's are just $30.

How about looking into a Victorinox Rangergrip 78 or take a look at their other models for the tools you need. It doesn't have a clip but can be opened one handed and has a screwdriver as one of its tools so your co workers won't need to use the blade. Also the Kizer Kyre Vanguard series is very nice. Someone already mentioned the Kershaw Link with S35V which would also be nice. Good Luck. 👍🏻 Kevin

I had no box or information and admitted to abusing my Kershaw when I sent them it...they sent me a whole new knife and never charged me.

The Kershaw KAI warranty department might be the best out there. Def get it fixed either way.

If you deassisted your blur, I'm guessing you don't want another assisted knife? Sandvik and cold steel XHP is about as good as you're going to find in that price range. Take a look at the Real Steel E571... Sandvik ball bearing flipper for $35.

As suggested in another thread of yours, the Tenacious is the closest you might come to the comfort of the Manix. Despite being 8cr, it holds up pretty good.

Just curious, have you bought a knife yet based on any of these different recommendation threads you start? Not trying to judge or offend, just honestly wondering.

a majority of the time I'm just trying to get others opinions on what I should get. I'll wake up one day realizing a certain design is missing from my collection or that I haven't tried a certain brand, but I have gotten a few. I got a leatherman wingman based off suggestion, I picked up my manix 2 based on a thread I started. I picked up a sage 2 (but sold it), same with a cold steel recon and a ZT 0350. But honestly I'm just not very knowledgeable of what I want and I'm looking for help. I feel if I narrow down what I want then someone who owns whatever knife I mention will give me an idea if it's worth it. I know it can redundant and I apologize for that, but I enjoy having conversations about knives and I only know one other person (my boss) who is a knife person. So it's nice to come on here and talk knives and get opinions and suggestions from people. I'll try to slow it down though

Why don't you look at one of the Cold Steel Code 4 models with CTS-XHP steel? It is priced right for you and has great steel and quality of fit and finish. A lot of folks actually prefer this knife to a Sebenza.

Coldsteel 3.5 Recon or Code 4 in XHP, amazing value and a great steel. I love XHP, super easy to maintain, and great balance of toughness and edgeholding in a stainless.

If you do decide you would go with Cold Steel the Broken Skull is top notch!! I know you don't like black blades and I don't either but their new dlc blade coating is more like bluing on a gun. Really nice size knife in a very slim and lite weight package. Here is a picture. Has CTS-XHP steel. Good Luck. Kevin

No worries! I clearly love talking about knifes and sharing comparison pics :)

He does not like the operation of the Triad-Lock. Cold steel is basically out.
