loon for some advice

i now this is a question u must get alot but i have to ask it. Im lookn to make my own knife well to of them to be quite honest. one is a pocketnife out of a kit. im going to put my own blade in it though. the outher is a bush knife. im lookn at carbon steel, it MUST beable to take a edge and KEEP IT,
rust is not that big a a consern i tae pride in my knifes. well to get to the question, i cant make up my mind on the type of steel. so any good advice
 
Try taking a look at the newbie sticky at the top of the forum. A lot of the "where should I start?" questions are answered there. Also, if you fill out your profile we'll have a better idea of who and where you are and it will make it easier for folks to answer questions for you.

It really depends on if your going to do the heat treat or not.
for the simplest heat treat, like "getter red and quench in oil, use 1070/1080/1084, if you have a precise heat treating oven available, the sky is the limit, CPM 3v would make a killer blade that keeps it's edge all day long. O1, D2, L6, 1095, or even... Tungsten Carbide would all be great carbon steels but all require precise heat treats.
