Loose weight, gain knifes.

I,ve come to an conclution.
I have gained some fat last ten years since my sons was born. further more Ive lost some fysical condition, mabye not strenght but more the ability to work hard for long times. With my sons being a little older the time has come back so I could train a little more again. Problem is I in a way feel good enough. Im kind of average for my age of 46. Kan run 10 km in an hour or carry a heavy backpack rather long way. Im 185 tall and weigh almost 90 kilos. But the the last effort to get a good skier and runner again is hard motivated.

So I made myself a deel. Every kilo I loose between 90 and 80 kilos is worth 100 sek and every week without sugar candy is worth 50 sek. This money is dedicated to knifes. And only traditional folders. First I thought about the double amount but Im not a real collektor so I was afraid that to big amounts of money would give me more knifes than I can digest. The longing and specifik planing for a new knife has to be there as a motivator. Probobly i have to look at a little more expensive knifes than usual to keep the intensety in the new knifes down.

If this work out as I plan I will go 90 km vasaloppet on skiis in good speed.

I want to feel like a grayhound again and to be the one that can go an a little longer when my mates want to take a brake when carrying a moose out of the forest.

Good luck on your goals Bosse. I'm also trying to get back in shape. It's not that I want to lose weight, it's more that I want to strengthen my body. It isn't just a matter of health either, I want to become more physically imposing for the troublemakers that will eventually start to come around for my baby girl.

Sounds like a good motivational strategy. I may have got lost in the metric system... or may not have a good idea of your body weight distribution... but 90kg doesn't seem so high for a guy with your height.

Christian, start collecting bowies. ;)

Hi Jake!

The metric system might be as tricky as your system is to us Europeans... ;)

90 kg are 180 pounds. At a height of 1,85 metres (~ 73.83 inches) it´s not much too heavy. It´s ok. For sure it depends on how you body-constitution is up to...

Kind regards
Andi

Sorry about diving deep into the metric system. Its not that Im unhealthy heavy. As most men I know, I started puting on a little weigh around 35. its the family life with steady dinners that puts its track. Mabye also building houses made me a little more muscle heavy. Now its not the muscles in the body I want to loose. My goal is to be a fast skier and distance runner once again and for that loosing 10 kilos would be great. I know I will never reach the speed of young days but this is also preparing for a active life within 30 years ahed still. I want to start loosing my body from a higher level. Moosehunting or mountain fishing at age 75 (if god aloves so) is a hard work.

Mostly I wrote this post to you as I got this Idea about revarding myself in my efforts to travel faster again with knifes. Im in many ways satisfied with the knifes I have but Im qurious about a Sway back jack, a peanut, a mini copperlock, a texas jack and one of the smaller GEC penknifes. Just carbon steel and bone in this system for motivation.

Well Bosse!

I also built a house and use to work in the woods making firewoods (axe, chainsaw and so on...). During the years I got a lot of weight and a lot of muscles. You should not loose them at all. They are useful ;)

But I think your way to go is alright. The results will, hopefully, give you a lot of new knives to the collection. Don´t forget to post them here.

Kind regards
Andi

You are not allone in the weight loss dept. I put on a few tons after getting out of the Army. It's a lot harder now that I'm 30. My goal is to re-up so I have about 30lbs to go, maybe 15 before I can pass the tape test.

Andi.
Its satisfiing work to make firewood. I also do this every year, I do it to my stowe in the house. Here its just a complement and to my two cottages. From this year I have a ATV but earlyer it has been a lot of carrying wood. I work an office with child psykiatry so I enjoy body work in the freetime and has to train regularly to stay fit. About now the condition is average but I will try to build fastness and ability to work hard prolonged sessions.

As for axes I have a few but the one I use for firewood is a Gränsfors big woodaxe and a Gränsfors splitting axe. But most of the jobb is done with a husquarna 55.

NirreBosse, congratulations on some healthy goals, with fun motivations along the way-- knives!

Hopefully someone can walk you through Photobucket, so we can see what you get. :-)

Great motivational tool. I am a big guy, too embarassed to give my weight, but I am about 6'2" with a BMI in the 40's. I've been told I carry my weight well, after divulging it to someone, but I sure as hell don't feel well. I'm trying though, and holiday cookouts are tough. My little brothers high school graduation party is Saturday, and that will be tough to not go overboard. I don't have any goals, other than being able to go on a hunting trip with my father and little brother, that my father has been talking about since I was just a pup. Now, he's too old (but still a tough old man of 59 ;) ), I'm too fat, and my little brother, who is in the best of health pushing 18, might miss out on spending time with his father and brother. I don't want my brother to have to drag our carcasses off some mountain range because we couldn't cut it.

It's been getting easier walking and hoofing it outside, and practicing outdoors skills is always a good way to get out from under the boob tube. I just bought a GEC 73 single blade, but I have been trying to put the money I would have used to either eat out during the week, or buy some sweets/snacks, towards sharp stuff. Long term goals are easy to set, but hard to keep, you've given me a good idea. Thanks Nirre Bosse.

Christian, I can see you 15 or 16 yrs from now;
"This bowie is a collector's item, it would be a shame to have to sully it... So you guys have a good time."

Seams that you and i use simular motivationsystems. Galning health gives knifes. My BMI is just about 26 but with My rather light strukture im at 23 whe fit and fast. As a terapist i know long Goals and is good but need to be followed by healthy and interesting partgoals on the way. Walking is good for loosing weight.

Great plan and good luck to you! Man, its really striking when visiting Europe or Asia how much thinner people are there. Sometimes if I have to zip into Walmart for something, it looks like a scene out of Wall-E.

I don't even want to think what my BMI is...but I can stand to lose 20 lbs easy. I started putting it on last fall, dunno why though. Maybe because I'm headed to the big 5-0 next year... I'm hoping that chasing after an additional 6 Boy Scouts our Troop picked up this year will help. 29 teenagers, oh Lord, I must be out of my mind.

Anyway, a reward in knives sounds like great motivation to me! :D Good Luck!

I've dropped 20 plus pounds since August of 2011. I think a knife per pound might be a worthy reward ..... I'm sure my better half will disagree though. ;)

Good luck with your endeavor!

Idon't know what my BMI is either, but I got a little shock this morning. Karen drove me down to the VA hospital for my kidney stone procedure, and they weighed me in at 189 pounds. For a 5 foot nine and a half guy, that's too much. I've got to loose some off my spare fuel reserves around my middle. I used to wear 32 to 33 jeans, but of late I've been in 34's. Okay, no more ice cream and BBQ for a month. If I loose 10 to 15 pounds and get back into 33's without sucking it in, maybe I'll reward myself with a Case damascus peanut in some stag. Or even some nice mother of pearl, to honor Pearl the wonder Corgi. It will be my Sunday go-to-meeting knife.

Is it cheating if I have no appetite because of the percoset?

Carl.

I need to devise a plan such as this. For me it is more like: Gain weight, gain knives.:D At least that is the path I have been going down here lately.

It's all my wife's fault. She's such a dang good cook!

Seriously though, good on you Bosse!

I'm also trying to take off a good deal of weight. I had a scare with breast mass and swore if they turned out to not be cancer I was going to get healthy to live a long time. (Btw they were only fibers) I will not be giving my weight but I have a ton to lose so wish me luck.

Good luck to all of you trying to loose weight, it's the modern day disease. It is possible at any age, so don't quit on this. Knives motivation is great idea though.
