Loose weight, gain knifes.

I AM in shape. Round is a shape.

Is it cheating if I have no appetite because of the percoset?

Carl.

Good luck on the road to recovery. Don't mix pain medicine with sharp stuff! ;).

Carl, don't give up BBQ either, you'll be really pissed sitting there with a salad while the rest of us are eating the good stuff!

Don't worry Dan, I'm not giving up on it, just cutting way back on the rich stuff monday thru friday. I'll have some of those Chubby's ribs on Sundays!:D

good luck with you. When I busted my knee, I gained 26 kilos. COmbined not moving for 2 years + heavy painkillers werent good. I lost 8 kilos now but I still need to lose 18 kilos or more. I am 183 cm... but I got extremely heavy body build with wide shoulders and wide chest and hips. I lost most weight when I started collecting knives... That is interesting :D

Bosse,
I was about to say good luck but, then, I thought better. Luck has nothing to do with that. It's all a matter of motivation and strategy.
I always thought that setting a goal and a reward is the best way to get a result. Just one advice. If you ever make it to your target weight, get a fine knife and be happy with it. But, the day after, set a new goal. Like keeping the same weight for the next 6 months or something like that. And another knife, maybe.
Four years ago I set a personal goal on this, not to exceed a certain weight until I'm 40 (for now). Then, I will see what to do. I'm Italian, and believe me, no one here was raised with a stronger food culture than me. But health is important, and even more important is feeling good with yourself (like Bosse's wish to return the greyhound of his group).
My job has told me that the hardest job in weight control is in the long run. But this might have positive side effects...hey, if you save 100 sek for every week and keep your weight for one year, you're going to get quite a knife...

Fausto, try to compete with Eastern European/Eurasian and native American food culture. Blinis, kielbasa, pierogis, fry bread. I'm Irish too, but don't drink that much. Go figure ;).

Japan has a great food culture too, as Peru, for example. And I'd love to know about the native American food culture, for sure. Maybe I'll get that chance someday.
Taste is taste, of course. But, I've travelled my share of the globe, and I've never met a food culture which was stronger than ours. Equal, maybe. Stronger, not.
Just like you won't see a place where dance culture is stronger than in Cuba or Puerto Rico. Hey, now you got me thinking...ten euros for every salsa figure I learn...sounds like a good idea to get new knives

Ah yessss, the great weight-loss problem we all seem to get at certain ages. For what it's worth since retiring I've actually lost 10 lbs. (like to lose about 5-10 more). I found out that by just eating less carbs and more protein the weight came off pretty easy. Of course I was exercising a bit more and doing more things outside. I'm 56 and weigh 200 lbs. at 5" 10". I've trained with weights since teenage years so have had pretty good musculature. I always feel better when I'm slimmer.
Good luck to you all on your weight-loss endeavors. Looks like we're all in the same boat!

Yes, it sucks when the doctor tells you your knee is shot (ligaments are fine but the miniscus is beat to heck and back) and that if you don't lose weight no one will replace my knee in 10-15 years when the pain becomes unbearable. So much for getting down to the weight I was when I joined the gov't service (350) or graduated academy (365 - see what 10 weeks of excercise will do for you!). Even the heart doctor said 315 would be good. No, the good knee doctor says 250. I haven't weighted that since 1988 when I had jaw surgery and they wired my jaws shut for 6 weeks. Oh, well. No more excuses - off the salt mines!
