Loss stories . . .

I lost an old WWII bayonet that I really liked...don't ask me how I lost it, it just vanished one day. Actually, it may have been stolen.

I also lost a 110 clone made by Klein knives.

I've only ever lost 3 knives.

One was in college, hence I think it walked off. It was a Taylor tanto, neat vintage piece, that had been purchased and carried in Japan by an ex-military guy during his service, quite some time ago. Miss that one.

One was a Delica, which was missing from my apartment after a party.

The most recent was a Salt I, which I didn't have anymore after a trip to the beach. Still don't have a clue where it got to...

This is the biggest loss I've seen in a while...

I haven't lost a knife since I really started getting into the hobby in college. Unfortunately (or fortunately?), every knife I owned before then is gone. I think the most valuable of the bunch was a bone-handled Frost Cutlery Coon Skinner with a scrimmed eagle and flag that I bought for $25 in '90. It was a decent folder, back when they were being made in Japan, rather than China.

I am always aware of where my knives are, at all times. I put them away in the same place, carry them in the same place, and never put them down, without noting the location specifically. If I put it down, 3 days later I'll be able to remember where I had it last. It's taken some mental training, but it has prevented any losses in the last 15 years. Now sometimes my kids will 'borrow' a knife, but I've been lucky so far in that they haven't lost any.

The only knife that I have lost since i have become a true enthusiast was my waved delica 4 that I lost at Leguna Seca during the ALMS race this past year. That was one of my favorite knives that I owned. It gave me a good excuse to order another from NGK along with its Endura counterpart.

The only knife I ever permanently lost was a Schrade fixed blade. It was a big, heavy, hard, to sharped knife. I kept it between my truck seat the door, I think it fell out and I didn't notice it, because when I went to get it, it was gone.

I lost a Schrade Stockman for about 5 years once. When we picked the couch up to carry it outside my knife fell out the Bottom. The funny thing is I had virtually tore that couch apart trying to find that knife.

I lost a SOG Sculptura for a few months. I was wearing some shorts that I didn't were to often and had the knife clipped to the pocket. The shorts weren't dirty so I put them back up, two months later I was rearranging the drawer and found the knife still clipped the pants.:o

I've managed to keep up with my knives by not laying them down anywhere when I'm using them. They go out of the pocket to be used and then right back in.

I lost [misplaced] my first Spyderco Endura, thought I lost it on the job so I told my boss about it. He told me to put a new one on my expense account and he would approve it. Got the new Endura, got the charge approved, then found the lost Endura in my gym bag. I told my boss and he said no problem, now you have two.:)

if i told my boss i carried so much as a swiss army knife she would probably call the police
she caught me with my leatherman wave opening boxes and she had me give it to her so she could keep it the rest of the day until i was off
felt like i was 5 again

Either there are some uncommon circumstances that are not mentioned in this story, or your boss is a nut case . . . what's the rest of the story?

your boss really sucks. The most expensive knife I ever lost was either a kershaw wirlwind or a ka-bar usmc fighting knife.
