It's a sad day for me today as I had to take my 3 year old Golden Retriever Fiona in to be put to sleep. She was diagnosed with Lymphoma about 3 weeks ago and the cancer had spread throughout her body. She had a few good weeks thanks to the meds and diet we had her on but my little trooper just couldn't fight it off anymore. She went for a walk last night, which was something she loved to do everyday but this morning she started aspirating blood from her nose and I knew it was time.

She was my Father's Day gift three years ago and was nothing but a joy. To say that I will miss her doesn't even begin to touch the sorrow and loss. I will cherish the short time we had with her forever.

I do believe that she is in a better place because all dogs go to heaven.

I am sorry for your loss my friend. I lost my best friend of nearly 11 yrs last yr, so I know what your'e going through. It's never easy.

I'm very sorry to hear that Sean. My sister had to say goodbye to her 18 year old pussy cat just this morning. My thoughts are with you both.

"He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds; my other ears that hear above the winds. He is the part of me that can reach out into the sea. He has told me a thousand times over that I am his reason for being; by the way he rests against my leg; by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile; by the way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him. (I think it makes him sick with worry when he is not along to care for me.) When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive. When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile. When I am happy, he is joy unbounded. When I am a fool, he ignores it. When I succeed, he brags. Without him, I am only another man. With him, I am all-powerful. He is loyalty itself. He has taught me the meaning of devotion. With him, I know a secret comfort and a private peace. He has brought me understanding where before I was ignorant. His head on my knee can heal my human hurts. His presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and unknown things. He has promised to wait for me... whenever... wherever - in case I need him. And I expect I will - as I always have. He is just my dog."

These stories are heart breaking. I have had two such of my own. I am glad you didn't try to chemo and such. I have never personally met anyone who had success with that. You took the best route for your friend, and you I think your timing was right. many people wait one day too long.

I'm really sorry to hear this. Losing a friend like that is absolutely heartbreaking.

I'm so sorry to hear that. My thoughts and prayers are with you friend.

Many thanks to everyone for all the kind thoughts and wishes. There is something very special about our pets, especially dogs, that makes their loss so hard. They teach us what unconditional love is.

God wanted his dog back and we will miss her.
