Lost a peanut... Carry advice?

Hey everyone, as I was going through my pockets yesterday, I noticed my nice little yellow cv Peanut was gone. I'm sure it's around the house somewhere, but the thing is, this isn't the first time the little guy has jumped ship. The other times, I've noticed it right away, but not this time.

My question is, has anyone NEVER lost a small traditional, and if so, how do you carry it securely? Thanks.

I don't mean to steal Carl's thunder here, but I love his idea of dropping the knife into your pocket first, the putting a folded handkerchief or bandana over it. He says he's never lost a knife that way.

FYI, I feel you pain; I was horrified earlier today that I'd lost my Skeletool CX because it wasn't in my pocket when I reached for it. Fortunately, it was just in the dirty clothes. Yes, I left work and drove home to find it. What? :)

I haven't never lost a pocket knife.

I had to say it because it was fun to say.

I carry my smaller traditional knives in the watch pocket of my jeans and so far it has worked out great for me. Sorry to hear about your peanut hopefully it pops up soon.

Mine is deep down in my right front pocket. Depending on the type pants you wear a hankie over top of it is a great idea if the pants you wear are prone to the knife slipping up and out.

How have you managed that? I have never talked to another person who liked knives who haven't lose at least 1 knife in their lifetime. So I believe you qualify as the first, I didn't think this was possible.

I am going to have to figure out a way not to lose the Canoe as well I just ordered it a few hours ago (rough rider armor hide canoe). My thought is to use my back pockets of my khakki pants which are Velcro as everything falls out of my fronts pockets if it's small and or smooth (cellphone), and same story with cargo pocket. (Been using one handed folders with pocket clips mostly, so as I said I am going to try to use my back pocket and hope it works out with a traditional.)

For regular jeans though I have had good luck carrying swiss army knives deep in my front pockets, helps that I have my "wallet" (money wrapped around credit cards rubber banded together) on top of it that tends to secure everything down as the rubber band has enough grip to not want to move in my pocket and stays put. I have also had great success with using the watch pocket, that pocket just seems ideal for smaller knives. Even in situations where I would normally lose a knife, if it were in my watch pocket it would start to rise up and get caught on my belt and stay in the pocket or my body with how I my jeans fit and I move I tend to put a slight downward pressure on the knife pushing it deeper into my pocket if I have to do some weird maneuvers to do something like get under a car or maneuver to get to a hard to reach place under the hood for example.

Though another option I would suspect would work is wrap a rubber band around the knife and toss it in your pocket, I find it has kept my "wallet" from getting lost after all these years.

I have yet to loose a knife. I have come close, I had one slip out a pocket whilst in the car once, but I heard it hit the door frame and retrieved it straight away. My small knives get carried in the coin pocket of jeans, bigger ones in the front right where they can't really slip out.

I thought I almost haven't never lost a knife before but then I guess I have.

On a serious note, I can't remember the last time I lost one out of my pocket, the only time I lose knives is when I trade or sell them, forget I did and go looking for them only to find they aren't there, lol.

I carry mostly in my right front pocket, however if I am carrying a large knife, such as my trapper or large stockman, it may end up in my right rear pocket because I hate the way the feel when they fall over sideways while walking.

I have had knives fall out of my work pants when working under a car on the ground, laying on my back, but always noticed when it happened.

I am a small guy and I hate wearing baggy clothes so my pants generally fit well and my pockets are sort of tight so that may be a factor as well.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I'm yet to lose a small slippie, but I can see how it could easily happen, particularly with a small light knife like a Peanut. I carry mine in the watch pocket of my jeans. If I'm wearing trousers with 'slash' type pockets, I tend not to carry a folder that small. If I do, I either drop it into the folds of my bandana or carry it in a small belt pouch. More usually, I'll slip it intoi a waistcoat pocket.

Yup, this!^^^^

I've never carried really large knives, the biggest knife was my old Buck 301 stockman. When I downsized to the peanut, I still kept up my old man's habit of a loosely wadded bandana. Wadded, not folded. Kind of like shaken not stored. For the sake of any who are in the dark, here's what to do if you never want to loose a knife;

Drop knife in side pocket. Make sure it's all the way down in the 'front corner' for lack of a better word. On dockers style khaki's this is the lowest part of the pocket where it forms kind of a point. Then, shake out a bandana. Yes, shake it out so there's no part of it folded up. Then, loosely wad it up and gently shove it down on top of your knife. Do this, and you will never loose a pocket knife again by having it slide out of your pocket. Jeans are of course, no problem.

Of course, there's the other alternative, the pocket sheath on a lanyard. I do a modified version of this approach with my tiny Vic classic. The classic si so small, and the rounded off shape lends toit going on the lamb very easy. So I use a little leather slip case attached to my keyring to keep it handy. And since my keyring gets attached to me with a snap ring, my keys, hence my smallest knife, never go missing. I guess the leather sheath would work for a small knife like a peanut. Maybe I'll try that.

Gremlins - Has anyone else had any problems posting in this thread? I've been trying to post all morning, must have made 30 attempts. My post above was posted a word or two at a time, and I'm having difficulty completing it. Thought I'd try this as a test.

I almost lost my tiny Laguiole back east this year, and would have if there hadn't been an honest man behind me. It slid out a little hole in my front pocket and landed on a rug.
So I try to check the integrity of my older pockets before trusting them with a smaller knife.

I had a Kershaw marine leek. I lost it so I pulled another one from stock. I go to hook up my trailer and dam if it was not sitting on the tongue open in plain site. it also has been raining like nothing too.

I have not yet lost a knife that I can remember. I lost a Leatherman multi tool once but that was because I left it at a work site in a different city and didn't realize it until much later.

I usually carry my slipjoint knives in my back left pocket beside my wallet. If I take my wallet out they just fall to the bottom of the pocket. I don't carry in my front pockets because I don't want keys and change scratching them up. If I'm wearing jeans, then I may carry in the watch pocket instead, but I've never had one fall out.

The first requirement when I buy pants or shorts is: How deep are the pockets. If the pockets are shallow, I don't get em. With keys, money clip, change, two knives (one clipped), phone and other various things I need deep pockets or something will work it's way out. Because of that I can say that I haven't lost a knife out of my pocket.

I've lost two, and then declared - never again. Case sells an inexpensive suede sheath in three sizes. The material is so grippy I don't think it is likely one could slip out of a pocket, even the slick kinds in polyester type gym pants. The smallest size would probably be perfect for a peanut. Buy 5 or 6 at one time to save on shipping and never lose another knife.

I lose everything that isn't physically tied to me. So it's lanyards and bails only for pocket carry knives.

Unfortunately, Case rarely puts bails on their knives.

Never have lost a knife. I've used the handkerchief method in the past but moved to just putting my knife into a small leather pouch. I've done this for a couple years now and have had no close calls.

Conductor has been attached to my pocket with a watch chain for almost a year now. Medium knives, probably a knife purse in pocket ;) and big ones on the belt.
