Photos lost knife

The Kizer Slicer is more expensive at around $75 but it is getting good reviews. My cousin got one and it has taken over as his primary EDC.

I can help with the pic.

If that's a logo on the side of the handle a larger pic might make identification easier.

There's always the possibility that the knife is too generic to identify. It's also possible that the knife is no longer being produced. If you're looking for an alternative replacement I'm sure that there are many similar, inexpensive options available. The members here will be happy to recommend some.
this is the only pic I had, the logo is like a Star Trek badge/communicator triangle, really.

I was out of town and going on an airplane home. I forgot I had my knife in my purse and mailed it home and the USPS lost it.
Did you ship it yourself, or arrange it at the airport? I ask because, if it was the latter, getting your knife to you isn't a big priority for them (despite the overcharge for the service). I think it took 6-8 weeks the last time I did that.

Looks like pretty much everything I was going to add has already been said but I'll say it anyway. I don't recognize the model specifically but the thumbstud reminds me of a Frost Cutlery or gas station/flea market knife, and has probably long since been discontinued. But if you're looking for one of comparable style, the K-Bar Dozier or Buck 112 Slim would make a solid replacement.

The number of things I've lost in my life..........
Let it go......
Go buy a really nice knife you'll enjoy. Think about what you didn't like in the knife and buy one better!

My wife carries a Spyderco Dragonfly everywhere. It is light and it fits in her purse and in those things laughingly called pockets on women's pants. She has orange and purple both. I just bought her a 3rd in pink with a black blade. It does come in black.

I've been thinking about this. Here's what I glean from Sharon's opening post- she's carried a knife in her purse (a "cheap" knife), and she's carried it for many years. So I assume she liked it and used it, and that it had served her needs. Also, based on the type knife it is I doubt that she was doing any heavy cutting with it. I don't imagine she was cutting roofing paper all day, or cutting up piles of cardboard boxes, or skinning dear with her knife.

Unlike those of us who frequent this forum, she may not be willing (or able) to pay the price for what we would consider an "economy" knife. Even the Buck Slim that I recommended might be out of her price range. I'm sure many of us have known people who would never think to spend $50 on a knife, or even $30. Especially if all they need a knife for is light cutting tasks, and there are less expensive options available.

If that's the case, then I would suggest Sharon consider the Ozark Trails brand of knives sold at Walmart. Although I've never used one, I have read several positive reviews on this forum from people who expected them to be junk but were very surprised by the quality, including ones priced around $5. And if she doesn't like it, she can always take it back for a refund.

I would typically recommend that a person spend the most they can afford to pay for a folding knife, but again, some people simply can't afford as much as others. And if all they are going to use the knife for is light cutting, they might not want to spend very much.

And of course, who knows, maybe the post office finds her lost knife and it shows up in her mailbox one of these days.

Lots of people carry very cheap knives and use them just a little. Always being the guy who asks to check out what people are carrying, I notice that a lot of people are walking around with very dull knives too. For many, it's a situation of seldom use and never sharpen. For some of them, the factory edges weren't all that sharp in the first place. Having one of those folks "start fresh" with good steel can mean having a sharp knife at the ready for years!

That said, I won't make assumptions about Sharon's budget. What I will say is that some of the recommendations, like the Spyderco Dragonfly in VG-10 or Kizer Slicer in N690, will come sharp and stay sharp MUCH longer than a lot of the cheap stuff.

For instance, those Ozark Trail knives often use 3Cr13 for the blade. That's pretty much the bottom of the barrel. It's the same steel that better knives use for the liner or frame. In cutting cardboard by the foot, steels like VG-10 and N690 will often cut more than ten times as far before losing the same degree of sharpness. Can it work in a letter opener that only sees use as a letter opener? Sure. Start opening tougher packages or doing other things with it and the sharpness will fade quickly.

So my advice to Sharon: If you like one of the better recommendations here, it could be a worthwhile investment. Even if you only ever use it to trim a loose thread or open a package, it'll be there for you. If you do sharpen or someone else sharpens for you, you'll only need to a tenth as often. :)

The logo does indeed look sort of like a Star Trek symbol. Enhanced and magnified it looks like this. I do not recognize it offhand.
One of those "I'm sure I've seen it somewhere" types of logos.
Based on the general design, FRN or plastic scales, black plastic thumbstud (probably right hand only) and pivot pin, I would have guessed something made by the G.Sakai factory, similar to the SOG Magnadot, Airsog etc but these are 1990s knives. So if the knife is from 10-15 years ago, it would be in the time frame of the abovementioned Frost Cutlery Made in China Flying Falcon series, although I don't think that's what it is. Possibly a China manufactured unknown brand.
If anyone has seen this simple logo, that would be a major step forward in identification.

thank you I will check them out

The Cold Steel Air-Lite was my first thought.

But that's probably because I've had my eye on one for a while now. It's a little bigger than her Frost, with a cutting edge of 3.5". Street price is about $85, so I'm not sure that counts as "budget" for a lot of people. I think I can do better with sticking to the list....
The Cold Steel Air Lite is part of my carry rotation. They are excellent knives and the AUS10 blade easily sharpens to a very nice edge. I highly recommend it, although the Triad Lock is pretty stiff compared to other lock backs.

Almost looks like the Fury brand symbol.

That's not a bad... The only reason I have had them ship it to me was I wasn't thinking when I left it in my pocket and checked my bag. It's far less expensive to do it beforehand; and - usually - the item will arrive far sooner.

Sharon, Shorttime hit it on the head. It's available on ebay if you are interested. Under $8 plus shipping. Just copy and paste " Fury model 16060 knife" in the "search for anything" box and it should take you right there. Good fortune.

Joe
