Not sure if this is the right forum for this question but I wanted to see how other people have handled Lost or Stolen Postal Money orders.
I mailed, via regular mail, a USPS MO as payment for a knife auction that I won. It has been 12 days and the seller hasn't received it yet. I live about a four hour drive from the guy so it really only should have taken a couple days.
I inquired at the PO and they do not replace the MO until 60days after the purchase date. They can start a trace on the letter itself after 30days (apparently they send something to the address, to the other PO, to some other cities, and to the Postal Inspectors).
So, I am not sure exactly what to do in the meantime, I don't want the seller to be getting too anxious. I have copied the MO receipt and intend to send it to the guy to show that I really did get the MO on the date I said.
Do you think it is reasonable to wait for the PO machine to do its thing?
I mean I guess that is part of the reason we use PO money orders, partly due to their guaranteed cash and partly because of the safety of replacement.
Anybody else have to deal with Lost or Stolen MO?
TIA, Phil
