Lost Mountain Iron Works and ESEE partnership dissolved

Derrick,

Our plans is to introduce the re-designed pack to the dealer network and do away with individual sales from our web site. That ought to make you happy ;)

Having bought ESEE gear for an amount in the 4 digits .. I really hope that the new esee pack design will be available without a knife.. i already got a 5 and a 6. Im really curious about those suggestion you received.. and the pack size the new design will be.

Of course it does!!

I just think it is bad form for a supplier to come out with a retail product at less than they sold it to you guys.

I am glad to hear it will go out to the dealer network. I love your products.

What I CONSISTENTLY read when coming to this forum is honest, open, intelligent conversation. Business relations based on real world $$ (read: financially viable for many customers). I return for this over and over. The lack of flame wars is also admirable here.
I own a 4, izula, hest (so far); junglas is on my wish list ( I have a birthday coming). I will continue to support these products based on the honor that comes across from ESEE, as well as the high quality. Thank you.

Thank you sir.

Charlie and Lost Mountain are good people. We wish them the best at what they do because they make a damn fine product. Just becuase we have a disagreement on business doesn't mean we can't all get along and be supportive of each other.

Just to be clear we are not selling them cheaper. The $85.00 we are charging on our site is more than we were charging Mike and Jeff. Just not the $115.00 they told me to charge so that people would always want it with their knife. We aren't trying to start anything here we just want to be able to offer the kit without a knife since we don't make the knives. They included other items like their patch, loksaks, firetools, sharpener, etc. The money in my pocket was definately less.

My apologies, Charlie. I thought I saw it on your site for 75 dollars earlier.

And just to be clear you came to us asking what to charge for the pack if you put it up on your site. By the time we paid you for the packs and extras and then marked it up our normal 30 percent profit margin, the 115 was a bargain. It was either that or we would have been giving the packs away and handling them at no profit margin and only making any margins on the knife itself. But that's all water under the bridge, brother. What ever you wish to sell the pack for is your business and we wish you the best. No hard feelings. Honestly.

To make sure we are all on the same page, I ran the numbers:

Pack from Lost Mountain (their cost now): $ 85.00
Add Aloksaks: $ 8.00
Add Fire Kit (Knives Ship Free pricing): $ 30.00
Add RC-6 or RC-5 (without standard sheath): about $ 110 for the 6 or $130 for the 5.

Total with ESEE-6 would roughly cost the consumer to kit it out as we were selling it: $ 233.00
Total with ESEE-5 would roughly cost the consumer to kit it out as we were selling it: $ 253.00

We sold the kit complete with either model of knife for $ 187.00

Now, with this change over in vendors I think the consumer will win out since this 187 price will get cheaper. Capitalism at it's finest.

I am glad US businesses can siedstep the pettiness that is so common and hurts the industry. US manufacturers have enough challenges in the marketplace without cutting each other's throats.

I plan to have both packs, the Lost Mountain & whatever new design comes out. I mean, I have more than one knife, right?

Stay classy guys. Your example is impressive.

I was trying to figure out how you even got close to making enough profit on the kit at $187 to make it worth the trouble. When I got mine after the shelter contest, I felt like I stole from you!

Companies that make good products have to try to join up every now and again. From an owner standpoint, I think this was a very cool project. Those who are stll interested in the pack can still get it from Charlie and the rest are patiently awaiting the new ESEE kit project.

What ever you wish to sell the pack for is your business and we wish you the best.

I hope Lost Mountain Iron works has a successful future as well. I don't own the product being discussed but I do see a lack of good sheaths of this type on the market. Especially one for knives in the 10" blade range and made in the USA (hint, hint).

check out Charlie's website and click on the link at the top of the page for the "foot long".
Seriously tempting item/price - and designed to fit a variety of blades currently on the market in the up to 12" range, either 3/16" or 1/4" thick.

Indeed that is a great price on the foot long sheath. Within a couple of dollars as we paid:) And normally I might say go for it but here is something to consider. We ran into this when we were having sheaths built by Eagle like the RC5 cordura sheath. The current version being an even better version than what Eagle built still like all these type sheaths have the same weak point. Once you by them that is all you will ever have, ie, that exact configuration of a knife seath. That is why we began a while back moving to the Kydex and molded sheath versions that are actually a platform to which the design configurations are literally endless. We can keep designing and manufacturing pouches, kits, MOLLE platforms, etc, that will all bolt to the same sheath forever. The user is never limited to one configuration.

Since we have come out with the Junglas 10" blade and the Kydex sheath/platform (made in USA) we have been busy working on other kits and pouches that will greatly expand the versatility of the carry stystem as opposed to one configuration found in sewn cordura sheaths. So no matter how well they are made cordura sheaths will always have this weakness. Think about that before you drop $45-50 on a knife sheath. We do:)

Mike, if that's a "subtle" hint you're going to be making pouches that fit the kydex, I'm all for it! :D

It will be this summer sometime. I am talking to the vendor now so after all the changes are made we get a few proto types then tweaking then production. There will be a couple of months with no availability due to getting this new one going but it'll be worth the wait.....as always.:) Save your pennies.:)
