In the various “dog” related threads over the years I have shared with my buddies here pictures and stories of our Akita, Tasha. Last night I had to say goodbye to her.

Saturday she seemed weak and wasn't interested in food but didn't seem to be in pain. Yesterday evening we noticed she was having difficulty breathing and couldn't get comfortable. We took her to the vet who used an ultrasound to see what was going on. There was so much fluid surrounding her heart that the right side was nearly completely collapsed and she also had a very large tumor on her spleen.

My wife and I have not been able to have kids, so all of that love and attention got poured into Tasha. She has been a part of our lives for 14 of the nearly 18 years of marriage. She loved car trips and camping, endured boating just to be with us and lived for walks in public places so she could love on "her fans."

I’ve lost both of my parents in the last two years and have recently had to shut down a business that I have poured myself into for three years, but losing Tasha really has me on the ropes.

I apologize for posting so off-topic here, but WSS has become my corner bar, where I go to chat with my buds. Thanks.

Obviously Tasha can never be replaced ... it's hard to say goodbye to a beloved family member but her memory will go on ... hopefully your next pup will give you many more years of fun and companionship. She was a beautiful dog.

Sorry for your loss bro .

:( I'm sorry to hear about your loss, I know losing a pet can be just like losing a human friend/family member. It's a hard thing to deal with. My condolences, sending smoke your way....

Sounds familiar.

We're shaped by the people and animals in our lives, especially ones like your Tasha. Going forward you can always be assured that she'll continue to have an affect on the direction of your life. At first, it seems like they go away forever. But they come back to you forever.

Losing a dog is hard, but what always comforts me is knowing that I'll see them on the other side. Sending smoke.

I am really sorry to hear about that. Remember the good times, it sounds like there were plenty of those!

So sorry to hear this FLIX. Tasha looks like she was a great companion.

W&SS makes for a great corner bar substitute - the only downside is that your fellow patrons can't buy you a round when you're feeling rough.

Hang in there, and remember her fondly.

All the best,

- Mike

I'm very sorry for your loss.

What a touching memorial thread to a beautiful and majestic friend.

I'm sorry Flix. She looks like she has a lot of soul. Thanks for sharing with us, her memory and pictures. My mom lost both her parents in a year and a half and she had a rough go at it. They all live on in you bro. You did the right thing.

You've got my sympathies and my prayers Flix! Loosing a dog is no small matter, and coupled with the other shots to the heart you've taken lately, its a really big deal. Please keep your head up. Your friend is still with you. I think about my Lady all the time. I'm sorry for this loss brother.

Every empathy to you amigo. I've had to remind myself more than once that "the pain I feel now is because of the pleasure I had then, that's the deal". Hope it eases up soon dude.

Smoke and prayers brother.

Loosing a dog to me is as hard as loosing any family member, never easy. You did the right thing, its thee last thing that we can do for our animals, so they dont have to suffer, we owe it to them.

Sorry for the loss. Hope you can recover from this loss. Losing a dog is one of the most challenging things to lose. :(

Thanks, guys. I appreciate your kindness. (My wife was moved also - once I explained the whole "smoke" thing. :)) Tasha lived to a very old age for a large breed. She was healthy, happy and easygoing all of her life. As tough as this is, I can see God's hand in it. We're contemplating a move back east and she surely was not up to the trip.

I don't know you, but when I saw those beautiful pictures and read your words, I had to pause for a few minutes. I wish you all the best. I'm sure you dealing with tremendous pain.

It's never easy to lose a best friend. Smoke and prayers from MI. I know Tasha would thank you for the 14 years you had together.

Tasha can play with my Grandpa and my old, best friend King (beagle we had for 16 years). They are in heaven too. :D
