Lost my blue M390 Para 2

This was my working knife since I bought it, which was when they were first released. It was one of the original batch and I’ve been using it for years. It’s somewhere in the campground of Three Rivers State Park in Florida, although I suspect it fell out of my pocket in the restroom so it’s probably in someone else’s pocket now. It was a great knife and I will miss it. I have several other Para 2’s so I can just grab another one, but the blue was really nice because it stood out and was easy to spot.

That was a fairly expensive knife and it still had years of use left in it. I’ve dug thru all my stuff and even set up the tent in the yard in hopes it might have gotten folded up when I was packing, but no luck. I’ve looked everywhere I thought it might have landed and even a few places that seemed impossible with no joy. This was just the last insult in a terrible fishing trip that had few fish but lots of rain.

Just wanted to vent. I’ve lost knives before but I thing this is the most costly one and the one with the most personal history.

Man brother I feel for you. I've lost a few great knives. Some I couldn't replace. The feel in your gut when you cant find it is worse then being kicked in the family baby makers. I hope you can find a replacement here on the forums. That really sucks. Might have hurt less if the fishing was at least super awesome.

I lost a Caly 3.5 golfing one day. It was cold and wet and when I noticed it was missing, I thought well it is cart path only today. I backtracked a couple of holes real quick and no one had seen it. I rushed back to my group knowing it was lost.

Drown your sorrows with one of these.

Is that an old sprint run or are they still available?

Nice. I'd say I have a pm2 in M4 that would make a nice replacement but I see he's in Florida and the one in have is in satin finish. And I lived in Florida. I know what the weather's like there . M4 non coated wouldn't be a good idea in less you want to invest more time in maintaining the steel.

It is an exclusive at Bento Box Shop and it is currently available. K390 is a beast of a steel. But like South paw draw noticed, you live in Florida and K390 is tool steel and you may have corrosion issues.

I live in Kentucky, I was fishing in Florida. I have an M4 but I never carry it. I’m perfectly happy with S30V for general use but I like the colored scales because (ironically) they are easier to spot than the black ones when you lay your knife down.

I may just buy myself a set of orange scales for my S30V replacement.

Well damit brother. Kentucky is a dry state the humidity is low. In Florida it's like swimming in the air. There is plenty of aftermarket scales out there brother and if you already have M4 then picking up a set of brightly colored scales might be the best way for you. Just food for thought. If you cant find a set of scales in a color you like buy something light colored. Like white, jade, tan or light grey and some rite dye. You can rite dye the scales to what ever color you like. Depending on what material it is on which rite dye you want but mostly.if its g10 the basic rite dye works well20191113_131936.jpg

How does M4 compare to K390?

Not really sure to be honest. Never had a K390. I've had several M4's and love them and several M390's and also love them. Had one 3V super tough steel. Want a 4v and sometime soon I'll pick up a K390 to see how it fairs. But I've heard nothing but good things about it. It's a tool steel. I really like tool steels. I have a D2 minigrip and I'll take that over the s30v minigrip any day of the week. I fine it all around better. But that was just my experience with it.

I've loved my experience with M4 it makes me want to try more tool steels, I've been thinking about the M4 PM2 but hearing of this new K390 run made me think twice.

My condolences. Never a good feeling. Years ago I set down a Kershaw at a gas station by accident the day I bought it. Realized it 5 minutes later drove back and it was gone of course.

I need to read up on K390.
Diddo . There's always pros and cons. I heard him say " when I make custom knives with k390" so that leads me to believe he has a reason to upsell the K390. Not saying it's not tough as nails. You can see it is. But all the M4 I have ever owned could have done the same thing. M4 is a beast of a steel. Hes making it out like its butter compared to k390. I'm just having a hard time swallowing all that hype. One way to find out for sure...

Sorry you lost your blue para 2. I have 3 para 2 knives and 2 are s30v
and one is a bentobox blue M390 one...and it is my favorite for sure.
I hope it turns up in some weird place for you.

@DeadboxHero isn’t up-selling. He’s makes knives out of what he wants and sells them on IG. He does a ton of testing and is worth listening to.

So what did I say that made you think I wasn't listening? And he is indeed "upselling" it. I siad I needed to do some more research onto it. And he said there's no reason to make knives out of M4 anymore with K390 out. Well then let's just stop making knives out of anything else. Come on brother. I respect his opinion. But that's just it. It's his opinion. I respect yours. And I have mine. And in tell I personally own a K390 and do more research on it. I'm not entitled to an opinion on it. As I stated like 4 or 5 posts earlier.
