First of all - I can see that some of the Spyderco people, take part it this forum, so let me start by adressing this to you:
"Thank you so very very much. For taking the time and effort to make a knife that complies with our strict danish laws.
For you to do that, truly shows that Spyderco makes knives to serve the people, and not just to make money!"
I couldn't find any particular reviews about the "DK Pen Knife", so I thought I'd share my experience.
As mentioned in the topic I, until recently, had a Delica (plain with FRN clip), which served me very good, until I lost it in the woods. I believe the lanyard god stuck on something and pulled it out of my pocket - lesson learned - so watch out for that.
My only real problem with the Delica is that it's illegal here in Denmark, so I couldn't use in on a daily basis. This is a shame, since it's truly a very good and lightweight knife.
I began searching for a worthy replacement, and learned about the DK Pen Knife. This was like a call from heaven, and today I tracked one down, and bought immediately!
To put it short: This is one hell of a knife
Specs:
Handle: G-10, 3.94 inches
Blade steel: CPMS30V, 2.72 inches (legal limit = 2.76)
Obviously, the materials used are very good, and the built quality is flawless (compared to what I know).
It came razor sharp, and the action is very smooth, and sturdy. It has absolutely no blade play.
The first thing that comes to mind, is that this knife is built, just one the right side of the legal limit. It's legal, no doubt about it, but only just.
Sure, it doesn't lock 100% (slip joint). But it feels and performs better than my Delica did. And yes, it does take quite some effort to close it (best of sweeping it towards the thigh).
Further more, the Spyderhole, has been filled/rounded, which means that the average person must use both hands to open it. Never the less, I can easily open it one handed.
...but then again - I can open my Leatherman Squirt knife blade, one handed :jerkit:
It has a nice bronze-like pocket clip, which makes the knife sit very low, when clipped in the pocket, making it quite invisible...buuuuuut then again who cares - I don't have to hide it anymore
The combination of the tight clip, and the ruff/gribby G-10 surface, makes the knife sit comfortable and locked it position.
The only thing I could maybe wish for, is a hole for a lanyard. Maybe I'll make one some day - but for now I like it just the way it is
All in all, I will say that the daily performance of this knife easily stands up to the performance of the Delica, despite the missing lock and narrowed Spyderhole.
The major important differences of course: Better grip, ergonomics, quality, AND IT'S LEGAL - can't mention that enough!
...I'm going to carry this baby forever.
A final question - does anybody know how many of these where made?!? Does it qualify as a "collectors item"? And last, what's the small logo below the Spyderhole on the second picture?
Thanks for reading my praise to Spyderco, I hope I've made myself understandable, despite my lacking english.
Regards
Claus - Danish Spyderco Fan
