Lost my job!!

Sorry to hear about the job. Stay positive and take it one step at a time. At least now if the headache dissappears tommorow you will know exactly what had been causing it.

Best of luck and happy hunting.

People can be such creeps but it never fails to surprise me.

When I took over my post office, we had a man out for a couple of years with kidney failure, on dialysis, waiting for a transplant. One day the word came from headquarters that he'd been out too long, fire him.

I ignored it. I felt like it would be telling him to drop dead. About a year later, he got his transplant and came back to work. :D

Ahhhhh, but I have been on the Company insurance plan long before I was employed there, through my spouse!!! Thanks everyone!! I am going to focus on getting rid of this blessed headache etc. before I go back to work!! I hope the headache clinic will have some answers and relief for me!! And good for you for not firing the guy that needed the kidney transplant!!

This story certainly makes me grouchy. I would love to know which hospital employed you (hint hint--I also accpt PMs:D ).

Faulkner has a good headache clinic.

You ever want to chat about knives in the Boston area, let me know.

Getting fired sucks. On the other hand, I firmly believe that everyone should get fired from their job at least once in their life.

Good luck. Hopefully, you'll be able to find some answers and relief for your headaches and then move on to a new, better job.

I only work 3 days a week, or I should say used to. I worked 3 10 hour shifts. They did not know I went to Blade, and did NOT interfere with my job at all. We couldn't get the hotel and flight money back, we did try. For those who do NOT know, I have had a headache for more than 5 months now. First, I was diagnosed with having had a stroke, the Neurologist thinks something else. I have now been referred out to The Faulkner Headache Clinic in Boston, MA. This is of course the short version. My hospital sent me home for a week, then told me to NOT come in th next week. I was out 1 week because I needed to do IV Therapy for meds. This made my headache worse! Besides having a headache, I have nasty, nasty dizzy spells, puking, ringing in the ears, AND a lot of pain, that NEVER goes away!! Did I mention that I have no relief from this pain yet???? The conditions that led to the firing were that I was out of work for illness for 4 weeks, and not in a row. Did not get in a disagreement with any one!! I was out of work for the last 2 weeks, and I was told that I needed a doctor's note to return. This is all there is to me being fired!Yes, I did work in a hospital; I am a Surgical Technologist.

Sounds like you might have a case...."wink wink"

Those HR folks are real ass wipes. Hang in there Suz and get yourself well first. We will be pulling for you.

I feel sorry for anyone who has gone through this kind of beaurocratic nightmare of termination. Its a sign of the times we live in. Disposable throw away society. Even people are concidered disposable in the eye of the employers. I went through this crap once and had a real hard time keeping it sheathed and remaining cool. After losing a good job it is sometimes good to take a holiday and air it all out, go to the beach, go pigging or whatever. I hope it all works out for you. It may be worth your time to aproach a lawyer, you may be able to sue the employer and your union for not supporting your grievance if you are unionized.

Hang tough! Focus on getting rid of that headache. I was "let go" once for so called cutbacks. I spent WAY too much time trying to figure out why they picked me to riff. My advice...Don't look back any more. It's done and not worth your energy.

For your headaches has your Neurologist suggested quiting all caffeine? I had a TIA and the very first thing was to stop all caffeine. It sucked, but it turns out that when you medicate yourself for a headache you often take meds that have high caffeine (the caffeine helps) BUT after the headache is gone you end up with a re-bound headache because of caffeine withdrawals. This is especially true if you take otc drugs like Excedrin Migraine. I had a headache for over a year with migraine symptoms including partial blindness. It took awhile to diagnose, but once I was past the withdrawal from caffeine and on meds for the condition that caused the TIA everything was sunshine and daisies.

Good luck. That was a shitty job anyway - you can do better. :D

SUE THEIR BLOODY ASSES TO HELL.
And in the meantime, sell me your knives REAL cheap! ;)
Seriously, I am so sorry for you. That's total BS.

I really know nothing about US employment law, but in the UK you can't be fired whilst you are unfit to work due to illness .

Your persistent headache sounds worrying. Have you had a brain scan during any of your diagnostics?

I hope things improve for you.

That's nice, but it is UK, not US.

Employment law here does include labor-management contracts, which may specify termination procedures.

Otherwise, some version of "failure to meet the requirements of the position" will rule, and failure to maintain regular attendance is the simplest charge for management to use to get rid of a worker.

That's exactly the charge our Human Resources office wanted me to use to fire that dying man. I just played stupid till he came back to life, so to speak. Had I fired him, he'd have had no legal recourse.

Very sorry to hear about it TKC, it always amazes me how indifferent employers can be towards there employees. .

Employers are scum. No better than slaveowners. They only understand two modes of communication: lawsuits and workplace violence. I hope the poster is reasonable/strong enough to stay calm and rational, and do the smart thing.

Hey TKC..

Well first off, I hope you get better soon and figure out what the problem is....

Secondly,, you should be taking your case to employment standards.. You have a case for improper Dismissal, and you should have some type of recourse ...

The good thing is that you should be able to get another job easily with your skills..

Best of luck, and I really hope you start feeling better...

Suzanne, I am sorry that you had to undergo such an ordeal. It proves that loyalty flows from the employee to the employer! "Loyalty is a one way sreet!" I hope that today's vinegar paves the way for tomorrow's sugar! ---Sandy---

Sorry to hear of the situation,I hope the headache gets better. On a lighter note I think i've been fired more than i've been hired if thats possible :p Think of it this way everytime God closes a door he opens a window.Good luck :)

Hey Guys..

Esav..

Sorry I didn't see your reply about employment standards..
Here in Canada,, if we are booted from a job without good reason, we do at times have some recourse, and employers can be held responsible...

I have been told by a neighbor that is a lawyer that that IS more than likely illegal. He is doing some checking. I may end up suing the hospital.
