Lost my knife to the trash compacter

Try the chinese knives I suggested. For best price vs performance, Enlan EL01 is on top. Breakin down boxes should be no issue, buy two, it costs you very little. Thin it down, convex it, i should eat cardboard. Google it, the best I found is from exduct. Shipping takes a while though.

Enlan heat treat is better than Sanrenmi or Navy. This is from experience of reprofiling the edge.

Good luck, with whatever you choose.

This is one of those things that is so subjective that its hard to give good advice. At best, we can recommend some contenders and you should just go with what you subjectively believe is "best" for you. My list for you would include:

- Skyline
- Delica 4
- Leek

If I had to carry only one of those for the rest of my life, it would be the Delica. Its pretty much the gold standard in that class for me. But I own and carry the others regularly, and they are great too.

Don't sweat it too much. Just pick what you like and go for it.

My recs include

Spyderco tenacious
Spyderco persistence
Spyderco delica
Kershaw blur
Kershaw leek
CRKT drifter
Kabar dozier

I like the Izula but the only place I can carry a knife at work is in my pocket so a neck knife won't work, unless they can be comfortably carried in a pocket.

The Izula carries quite well in pockets, I've forgotten it was there more often then not. Though I usually have mine strapped to my belt and can forget it's there as well.

I'd rather not get a chinese knife. I want to get it from a reliable company.
The tenacious is too big for me, but the persistance looks nice.
I absolutely hate the looks of the delicas handle, same with the vantage, they just don't look right.

So as of now my personal list is

Skyline
Persistance
Izula?
Leek

As much as I seem to love giving Jeff and Mike my money. And as much as I love the Izula, it doesn't really fit your needs. 1095 doesn't hold an edge really well cutting cardboard. You're much better off with some decent stainless (I'm partial to the Leek).

What you get is your personal choice. Not trying to push you, but there are two kind of Chinese knives: crap and quality. Sanrenmu, Enlan happens to be of quality. Check this out:

My personal experience with them are good, and since you mention budget constrain, I thought of offering economical but quality knives as an option. Reliability, consistency, sharp out of the box, are comparable to some known brand, some are even better (not in term of material, but build and consistency).

Again, your choice is respected as it is yours alone.

Seeing as you are so adamant for me to look at these i decided too. I actually like them, I'm going to get a srm 710 just because i like it.

But I still think I'm going to get a name brand knife too, most likely the leek or persistance.

mogmz- just curious, what is a smatchet?

Punisher- Thanks for your input, I have come to the conclusion that however cool and awesome the Izula may look, it would just be too impractical

:D good for your wallet ... Just trying to help ;)
763 is better in terms of grip during long usage IMO. 710 has a bit more blade length though ...
More 'abuse' story, but I won't abuse my knives this way!

A smatchet is a large fix blade knife that's almost a short sword ...

From your list, I'd go with Persistence. You'd like the hole type of deployment. Enjoy & share your real life use of these knives ...!

If I were you, I'd just go ahead and get another Skyline. It's hard to beat that knife, for value. If the clip is too tight, just bend it a little. It's only a thin piece of metal...
