Lost the day job guess I'm back to full time maker

They paid me well
I got a great laugh at their expense
to sweeten the deal they threw in an old test furnace that they no longer had a use for and 5 spare heating element segments (I will find out next week if I also get the Eurotherm 3 zone PID controller)
I made out OK today :D

Oh yeah, and the lab manager is going to try to hire me back into a union position in 6 months when one of his techs retires (if he is still in that position) It really pained the head of HR to have no other choice but to beg me to come in for a day,

Dumbass could have figured out some way to keep me employed in the first place. Apparently there is some sort of formula that corporate uses to determine how many salaried people can be on the payroll per union employee, and they had laid off too many union workers to be able to have as many salaried people as they had so I became an easy target.

Oh well, back to being unemployed

It would of took them 10% of what it would have cost them if they didn't get it done for me to get it done.

Lawdy Lawdy Lawdy, I just got the phone call that they need me and will pay a full day for 5 hours of work

HeeeHeeeeHee

So sorry to hear about the layoff Page.

Been there, done that, and was dismissed under similar circumstances. Like I hadn't worked there for 3 years.

Difference is, you were bigger than I was when they realized they'd cut their nose off to spite their face. I was too busy with my next endeavor to give them the 10 fold consideration that they were looking for. I told them to go pound sand. They were completely out of business in 4 months. There's a reason certain companies go down via their practices. That's why it's imperative we let them. Darwin 101. Anyway, before I get too political here, I really wanted to encourage you to circle the wagons.

Get back to basics.

Start thinking, "What can I do without?"

When I got laid off, my first reaction was that of complete panic. Then, after speaking with my wife, we realized there were so many things we could do without.

Gotta pay the mortgage. Check.

Gotta eat. Check.

Gotta pay the insurance on the house, vehicles, health, etc. Check

Gotta have Cable TV? Errr, nope.

Gotta have Land line and cell phone service? Nope again. Why not cut back to just cells? The relatives on our end adjusted really quickly if they wanted to speak with us.

Fillet Mignon or Chicken? You may very well have already made this adjustment, but if you haven't, save the Fillet for special occasions.

Buy bulk.

"What can I do without?" should be your mantra.

I realize that I'm not fully aware of your families' dynamics and whether or not there are special circumstances in place, but you strike me as the "GRAB YOUR BOOTSTRAPS AND PULL WITH ALL YOUR MIGHT" kind of Man. I've followed your technical advice with great interest over the last year or so and I look forward to learning much more from you. I hope you take this as an "ATTA BOY" rather than preaching, as that is how it is intended.

I'll be keeping you and yours in my thoughts and hope opportunity presents itself sooner than later.

Taylor
