Lot of blems for 10/17 -- no pix but good deals.

Tohatchi NM,
I already have a GS 18inch by Sher and the handle is big, thick, and wonderful! Sits neck-n-neck with my Sher Chitlangi in the "most comfortable khuk I own" category. :)

Edit to add: right behind, of course are my Sher M43 and Sher 15inch AK...did I mention I REALLY like Sher's handles? ;)

On the subject of Antique Khukuris, I looked in my reprint of Lord Egerton's "Indian and Oriental Arms and Armour" originally written for an exhibit in 1880.

Of the Khukuris listed in the catalogue only 14 describe the handles

6 are wood
3 are ivory
2 are horn (1 is carved with a floral motif)
3 only the decoration is described not the base material

FYI

How many 12" AK's do you have by now Sarge? I was tempted to try for that one but I have the Bura and the villager so I don't really need it. Would have made a good Christmas present though.:) :)

I went up to the Reno Costco Thursday to buy some meds at their pharmacy. Didn't call or stop by at Uncle's. Did hit two ( Come to think of it, more like 4 ) gunshops and nearly bought a nice Marlin 30-30 for $200. Have a Win 94 Trapper in 44 mag.

Stopped by the bead place in Fallon and got some 12mm, 8mm, and 4mm turquoise beads for a mala ( for myself this time ). And got coral beads and more in Reno too.

And to keep it on topic, Boone Trading Co. has 8mm mammoth ivory 8mm beads for sale. Called them today to find they are open 10AM to 4PM Monday through Friday, so of course I called them at 4:20 PM today ( Friday ). Will try again on Monday.

Well, time to turn on the TV as I'm at the part in Seven Years in Tibet where the guy's escaped from the British P.O.W. camp and is heading up toward Tibet. Haven't seen it before, and got a copied VHS tape just a few weeks ago.

Pappy, right now I've got three 12" AKs, one by Sher that's the absolute epitome of a 12" AK, love that knife, not just because it's a good'un, but also because it was a gift from Uncle Bill. It was my EDC khuk for Operation Iraqi Freedom, and now that I've reenlisted, it may get to serve in that role again. My "discreet carry" khukuri is a very compact little AK by Shanker. I've made it even more compact by re-shaping the handle and stripping the scabbard right down to the wood, recovering it in brown leather without the rigging for the accessories, and without the chape. It's so light and compact now that I can slip it on my belt and conceal it with an untucked t-shirt. Berk's seen it up close, and he'll tell you, at first glance the dang thing looks like a big Bilton. That is, until you unsheath it and realize the blade's still full size. My third 12" AK is my wonderful Villager made by Kumar. What an untiring and undauntable little workhorse that one is! Hands down, my "woods knife".

This recent acquisition by Kumar ain't for me, it's going to be a gift come Christmas time. I hone it up, test it well, then polish it and pack it away. Badda boom, badda bing, progress on my shopping list.
