I added lots of brand new stabilized blocks of wood to our web store today.
All of these blocks were professionally stabilized by K&G (Knife and Gun Finishing Supply). So you know they were done right.

This link will take you to the new Stabilized Redwood.
Here is a sampling of some of the new pieces.

Quilted and Crushed Velvet Figure Old Growth Redwood

Some Dark Old Growth Redwood Burl

and a few pieces of stabilized Cascara Sagrada

Stabilizing makes the wood more durable than it would be untreated.
But, it does not make it bullet proof.
Normal to heavy use it works out good.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, they look real nice. Maybe I should stick with a Iron wood for battle blades and that burl for non-battle blades. Do you ever get desert ironwood burl? Thanks.

I get Ironwood Burl only rarely.
The last few years it is difficult to find the good stuff and that get's pretty expensive.
But I never know what I will come across.

Let me know if you run into nice Desert Ironwood burl if you can. I'll keep a lookout for your new burl posts. Nice email addy :)

Hey, Mark! I've been admiring the Cascara blocks for a while but haven't pulled the trigger because I've never worked with it (I always find something else fun to buy from you!)

How is the wood to work? Is it chippy/splintery? How dense and how hard is it comparatively? Just curious - beautiful stuff.

The cascara works a lot like hard maple.
I thought it was one of the easy, trouble free woods.
If you get a piece and feel it is a PIA, let me know and I will refund what you paid.
