Lots of pics. A few of my favorite EDCs, tell me what you think!

I was using the kit lens. It's an 18-55. I use it for the light box shots because when I back the camera up to use the 55-200 or the 70-300 I get vignetting.

The kit lens is actually pretty decent. My only beef with it is the plastic mount. I'm in college with no income so when I got the D80 a couple of years back I knew I'd be holding on to it for a while. I'm probably going to get a new one next year.

I use my D90 and Nikkor 18-70mm for most shots and all video, lately I have been using the Nikkor 105mm 2.8 VR Micro.

The ones in my Strider CC thread were shot with the 105mm 2.8 VR Micro.

heh, I just ordered the AF-S 18-55 VR - I got over the mount being plastic as it seemed like decent quality plastic, when I owned the 18-55 before. I really wanted the AF-S 16-85mm VR (600-700 dollars bleh) - but after reading Ken Rockwell's review he said the 18-55 was every bit as sharp, I decided to just get that lens again. Also plan on buying the 55-200 VR again (sold both the 18-55 & 55-200 lenses with my D40 to get the D90). The 28-70mm I got off ebay for 100 bucks is better than expected, but I'm hoping the 18-55 is better yet.

If you're interested you can see my photos using the 28-70 over on the test/review page. I'd be interested to hear any criticism you might have. It's a good lens on a budget and has a metal mount (also made in Japan). I regularly see them on ebay.

That's a very nice setup. I use a D90/Sigma AF 70mm F2.8 for macros. Personally, if I was going to spend 900 on a macro lens I'd seriously consider getting the Sigma AF 150mm F2.8 over the Nikkor 105.....Maybe :)

I looked at the Sigma 150mm, but I got the Nikkor 105mm 2.8 VR Micro on the recommendation of a few Pros saying it had better overall image quality and color reproduction and was a better for use as a Telephoto (My Primary use for this lens).

Y'all take some excellent photos. I really am happy with the 70-300 VR I got so I'm not going to get anymore zoom lenses.

I want a really fast lense that can work as macro. What do y'all think of the nikkor F2.8 50mm fixed?

The Nikkor 60mm 2.8 Micro is very good.

The only problem with the shorter Macro lenses is lighting when you get really close because the lense will be so close to the subject it can block the light.

That's when you get down to 1:1 ratio.

True Macro lenses have a very shallow depth of field when you start to get close so you really have to watch the depth of field and adjust.

Well I know what i'm doing next weekend, building my own "ghetto light box" lol

I got a Nikon D3000 with the Nikkor 18-55mm VR lens, takes pretty good shots free hand, I'll have to see if I can rig up my old tripod and see what results I can get.

Thanks for the pics/idea!!

Oh and what size light bulb did you use? 100w?

Does spider co folders do look nice. You’re going to make me brake my knife fast. :grumpy:

It's a 150 watt. The work light was literally like 10 dollars at home depot. I got the bulb there too. It's a 150 watt "crystal clear".

Let us know how it comes out.

Great photos makes me want to get a Gayle Bradley. Love the light box idea I don't know anything about photography but you definitely got me interested. Can you find a decent camera for this at around 300-400 dollars? or is it worth it to just save up and get a higher quality camera.

The nikon P500 is a great entry level "prosumer" camera at around 400 dollars. I just bought one to compliment my DSLR d80.

Awesome that looks like alot of fun and those pictures turned out great! thank you for the recommendation!

Thanks and no problem. Photography can be a lot of fun. Just make sure you learn the fundamentals before spending loads on accessories. No amount of gadgetry can make up for a lack of fundamentals. :)
