lotta new names

Hey all,
My name is Jimmy and I live in west TX. I guess one of my many flaws is collecting knives. I spend the majority of my time outdors hunting, fishing, and camping so its safe to say if I am not asleep (and even then sometimes too) I am carrying and/or using a knife every chance I get. I am seriously looking for an everyday knife right now, but I will post an another thread for everybodys input later. My most recent purchase was a RAT Izula in OD green. Thanks for inviting me to join in on this thread. After finding this site just recently, I found WSS to be the one I primarily stay on. Can't beat advice from those who know what they are talking about!!!! Thanks again guys.

Gills here reporting in, relatively new here... tend to read a lot more than write . But have found a lot of information and inspiration from the forums as i especially like the "do it yourself aspect here in the forums. As well as anything knife related in fact some of my recent purchases have been greatly influenced by the guys here... and have had no regrets form the choices what soever. btw am from almost half way around the world...am from the Philippines.

Well, seems to be the popular thing :D

I am Dale, live in Northwest Ohio and love anything to do with the outdoors. Mainly fishing and hunting, but I am pretty much interested in it all. I am only 19, but I have been collecting knives since I was about 10, and into the bushcraft/survival since I was about 13.

I have learend more from the people on BF than I have the people on any other site, or any of the books that I have read the past few years. I hope to gain even more knowledge, and soon be able to pass on that knowledge to new newcomers.

Oh, and I mostly post in WS&S, Genral Knife Discussion, or the RAT subforum :)

Thanks Rescue Riley, for reminding us of our manners. Welcome to you all. I belong to 7 survival related discussion forums, but this is the one I spend my time in. You will find the people here, friendly, welcoming, helpful, generous and interesting. Rarely does a difference in opinion get out of hand.

I think you will find this is a rewarding place to hang out.

Doc

Wow good turn out..Thanks for chiming in all..Mods if we can make a WSS intro stick that'd be great just to give all the folks an opportunityto introduce themselves. Welcome everyone..I belong to a couple of different forums but I find this one is by far the busiest so it's a great place to get info and topics going,,People are always willing to share opinions and ideas.. so feel free to chime in...that's how you become part of the family

I'm Colin and I've been here for a while, though I don't post all that often and I don't get out NEARLY enough.

I live in PA, although I'm a Sophomore at a University in Virginia so I spend most of my time here. I don't even own a bloody car so its very hard for me to get out into the woods, which are only 10 mins out, so I have to live vicariously through you guys!

I've been collecting knives for a bit over a year and have learned a few things: I'm broke and I shouldn't have ever started! :D This is very addicting and I always enjoy reading the outdoor posts because it takes me away from school work and the campus (its now 2:30AM hahaha)

I guess I'll reintroduce myself.
Used to come in here alot (can't remember old handle now) until my puter got hacked. Old account was shut down, so apparently somebody decided to come here and piss off a mod. Either way, I'm back now and hopefully will get to stick around. So here's my reintro:

Real name is Shawn. I live in Southeastern Ky. Wilderness Survival instructor, I've taught privately, also at Big Sandy Community and Technical College, this spring I begin working with our chapter of the American Red Cross (provided the funds are there for the program they wanted to start) in a program called "Extreme Outdoor Camping". Began by learning wild edibles, trees and a few other tricks from my grandparents and uncles. The rest I learned on my own running through the mountains like a wild Comanche as a kid. Every year I try to take a barebones trip by myself for atleast two or three days (to cleanse the soul) with nothing but my knife and my small pack (pictures later). Yes, I make a basecamp as an incaseshit. This year my nephew wants to come with me and start learning bushcraft/survival.
Made my first friction fire by complete accident when I was 10 (I now know it has a name: "fire saw"), singed my eyebrows off a bunch of times after that.
Have always camped, hunted and fished. Have always known some form of survival, but just thought it was something everybody knew.

Currently working on my Master's Degree in Psychology, hopefully en route to my Doctorate.

Have loved knives ever since my old man gave me a Crown Royal bag full of old pocket knives (that were stolen...son of a bitch). Absolutely feeming for a Busse Battle Mistress, a Fiddleback Nessie, A Breeden Pathfinder, A Wildertools Bushlore, and a TOPS ATAX.

Even used to make a few, until I moved and tore down my forge (a sad day that was). Now I'm just too busy to get started again.

feel free to check out my website if you're interested in classes or neat stuff going on around Kentucky: http://kemsat.webs.com (no classes scheduled right now, the reason is on the front page.)
If you want to add me on MySpace: /wildcatwilderness

Blade Collector: Hey Jimmy! Welcome to the forum from another Texan! I live in South Central Texas myself. I try to spend as much time as I can in the great outdoors myself. You'll find a lot of GREAT info and GREAT folks here on this Forum!

Ron

Hi guys, not sure if I've introduced myself here, so what the heck, I'll throw one out there. My name's Jason. I've been on BF for a little while now, but just found WSS in the last few months or so. I've been an outdoors enthusiast all my life including hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and basically anything else. I especially enjoy going out into the bush with a couple friends with very little in terms of equipment and making shelter and fire and what not. I've recently gotten into hiking a lot more, and am planning a trip to the West Coast Trail in May.

As for life outside of the outdoors, I'm currently an engineering student. I enjoy both gliding and powered flying (got my licenses in 2006 and 2007 respectively), and most things related to aviation. I'd love to get my float endorsement, but that will have to wait as I can't afford it:grumpy:

PS. I also have a bit of a thing for sharps;)

PPS. I guess I was in the previous Intro thread...bottom of the first page. I tossed a picture in that one if anyone wants to check it out.

Hello folks!

I've been a member and a reader for quite some time. I've always been involved in outdoor hobbies (hunting, fishing, camping, backpacking, canoeing, mountain biking, and motorcycles) and I think survival/bushcraft is prehaps the most interesting.

I'm continually impressed by the level of generosity and knowledge most of the regulars 'round here seem to offer. I've only recently started posting, and plan to contribuite more often. My wife and I are expecting our first child within the next week, so I may not be around quite as much as I have been lately. (This will probably have a negative affect on some of my planned purchases!)

Take it easy!

Brandon

Welcome all ... it's great to see some new blood tuning in to W&SS

Pull up a stump and stay a while - there is a wealth of info shared here.

Welcome all :) W&SS is a fine place to learn, be you an outdoor newbie or experienced woodsman  If you live close to other W&SS members, definitely take advantage of meeting up with them if you can! I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better group of guys here on Bladeforums.

Exit and Chicken, have you ever made it up to the Cohutta Wilderness area? I've been hearing its a good place to explore, but I'm still fairly new to GA and am not sure what to expect.

Ron 53: Hey its always great to hear form another Texan (nothin against other states). Look forward to many conversations with yourself and hopefully all the others here in the future. Where are you located if you dont mind me asking?

I’m new here, I followed a guy from a guitar based forum. I’m no great wilderness adventurer but although I haven’t traversed the deserts of Valles Marineris or climbed the peaks of Olympus Mons I do like to get out into the wild stuff from time to time. I have lived in a few places right on the edge of the wilderness. Today I live about 6 miles from the main gate leading to Flamingo, the southern tip of the Everglades National Park.

I’ve always had a knife on me, at least since the age of about 10 or 11. I like knives and in those tough times when I couldn’t afford what I wanted I either built them or made them from scratch. I don’t know if loosing my first fixed blade on a camp out as a Boy Scout influenced my desire to make my own sheaths but it sure didn’t hurt. I rarely use the manufactures sheath, especially the pouch type.

Since I’ve joined this forum I have purchased way too many things, I can tell myself that I may have need for them but the fact is they’re just cool. I fell for the Bark River Aurora with antler looking bone, a pack shovel although I still have my dad’s from WWII, 4 Vic Farmers and various camping equipment. I guess not too bad. I’ve used flint and steel for at least 20 years, I’ve used fire bows and have camped with the NMLRA since 1988 in pre-1840 camps.

My skills and interest run very similar to members of this forum and I’ve followed another link from here to Paleo Planet and have many of these primitive skills too. The blending of these can offer a wide variety of woodcraft and survival skills. I’ve learned quite a bit already, like the napalm fire goo and cotton balls and petroleum jelly.

I think most of you guys are even keeled and socially skill with an obviously high level of education and skill sets and I don’t just mean academia.

I hope to be able to add a few things I’ve picked up from time to time while avoiding any controversy. I fully understand what works for me maybe complete crap to somebody else.

That first home made knife I mentioned;

and my new Bark River with it's home made sheath, I sanded down the handle a bit too;

Hey hushnel - great lookin' barkie

I just recently discovered paleo planet too - some good primitive skills info there.

Not necessarily new, but I frequent the W&SS in waves. Been out of here for WAY too long... :(

Name is Phil. Of all the forums here on the BF, I have learned the most from this one. Reading things here brings me back to why I love knives and the outdoors. I need to stop taking breaks from this place...

Well ... I found this place looking for knife info. Wouldn't call myself a knife collector, although I own a few.

I live in southern Ontario, write for outdoor magazines, spend as much time as I can out with a fishing rod, which is less time than I want it to be these days thanks to the day job. That's about it.
