Am I crazy for being very disappointed, and a little hurt, for not receiving the opportunity to spend a grand (more or less) on a stupid pocket knife? I guess it's only crazy if nobody else does it, right? 🫣

My mind is warped when I enter a lottery. For some reaseon, I expect to be a winner in a lottery and I'm always a little surprised when I don't find my name among the real winners. I'm 72 years old and haven't won anything meaningful in my life so I cannot fathom why I always feel so optimistic.?.?

Because your 72 and healthy enough to enjoy your hobbies.

Been there before. The only stupid pocket knives are the ones you can’t obtain.
This a great way to cope with your " blues "

I am of the same mindset ,if it is made of " unobtanium " I don't want it ,at all . To me it becomes worthless ,the attraction just fades away so fast

These days ,there's so many choices

In 2014 I flew 20 hours from Cape Town, South Africa to Las Vegas (via the UK) to attend the USN Show.

I entered a number of lotteries and never won a single knife. I had ordered a knife from a specific maker who delivered it to me at the show but other than that I came back empty handed.

I had to watch while the majority of lotteries were won by folks who either re-sold the piece at a vast mark up on Instagram, or added it to their dealer website. It was very frustrating.

The next year at Blade Show I met a number of people who only attended Blade to enter lotteries, win desired pieces, and resell them instantly in the room or online. For them it was all about making money.

I'm not complaining.......just saying that is the way of things.

In this particular case, my coping mechanism was ordering a new $300 OTF. I've never had one so I'm counting on it to distract me for a while.

"made of unobtanium" - I love it!!

The one I can't figure out is one dealer recently had a lottery where you had to pay $100 a ticket to enter the lottery. For a single chance to win the right to actually buy a knife.

It’s like paying someone to abuse you. I don’t get it but people do it.

I worry that when I die, my wife will sell my guns and knives based on what I told her I paid for them.
