Before I start I must thank Prijon for the idea and advice.

I'm a big fan of Carbon steel pocket knives and the Sodbusters design in particular but the one easy find carbon Sodbuster leaves me very cold.

I'm just not a fan of Yellow. other than that the Case CV sodbuster Jr is perfect.

Forum curiosity saw me finding a inspiring post here which made me decide to give the CV model a go....

Not because I'm suddenly a yellow convert but because half an hour and a small tin of Multi-Purpose Dylon can cure anything :D

Thanks again Prijon - think I'm going to try OD next :D

I like the yellow, but not really on a Sodbuster. Too much yellow there.

That's a cool color ya did there!

I've got a soddie jr. I keep in my tool box. I decided to try this mod this evening with some rit black dye that my wife had. It's not exactly what I expected. I guess it turned out sort of interesting. That's about the best praise I can come up with. I'll post my results when I get a chance tomorrow.

I just used a 3.5g tin cost a couple of $

color is Tangerine

Could you provide details on how to do this?

very simple

clean the knife so its grease free. mix the dye as instructed - (mix up the powder in 500ml of boiling water in an old pan, add 30g of salt - I think rit dye comes pre loaded with salt so you might need to check). Put the pan on the hob and simmer, add the knife making sure its completly covered, it says stire but I suppose thats for material. I did it anyway? It was done in 40mins, maybe sooner

it should last - I gave the knife a hand sanding half way through as there were a couple of much darker patches and i got nervious about the finish - didn't make any difference wouldn't come off, shouldn't of worried though the dye ended up being very even.

I suppose only time will tell if it fades/wears but if it does I think it will be subtle there's no evidence its a layer that would peel off

I find black dye raily works properly on anything - its almost always just a very dark purple

If anyone is planning this mod I'd stick to colours close to Yellow on the colour spectrum anything from red to green should work

I think I'll call this knife The Bad Banana. The splotches that are actually black are where a little PVC primer got sloshed on it.

I've had my Case yellow delrin knife peanut sitting in orange Rit dye for 24 hours with no effect. Should I sand it? I didn't boil it, just dumped some in a cup and stuck the knife in. I'm obviously doing something wrong.

I wish I could be of some help, but you've seen my attempt with black dye. I will say that where the surface layer had been removed by the primer sure did take the dye. I simmered this knife for an hour and a half. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in.
