Love for the plain old VG10 Endura...

That brown G10 Calypso isn't a whole lot different. You might grab one while they're still around. ;)

shunsui, you my friend are a terrific enabler! :encouragement:...

...however if my ZDP Endura hadn't arrived today :D :glee: I'd have been even more tempted. Playing with Enduras for bit!

Cheers!

Ben

I eventually will get a zdp spydie but I love the vg10 its so easy to maintain and sharpen.

Hey Topcatpt,

I totally agree about the advantages re. ease of sharpening of VG10 - of course, it is also that ease of sharpening which means it loses it's edge that bit faster too.:friendly_wink:

That said my initial cutting with the ZDP is supporting all those who voiced just how tenaciously this steel hangs onto an edge.

My only minor issue was pretty uneven grinds on my ZDP version. It doesn't affect the performance at all and I will just let it re-set as I sharpen it.

Overall, ZDP seems great but my experience so far can hardly be considered "exhaustive". That said the VG10 version remains a really solid performer...

Cheers,

Ben

So what makes the FFG more popular than the Saber on the Endura? Looks or functionality?

For me it is function - everytime. I actually prefer the look of sabre grinds but the thinner profile of FFG means that the cutting & slicing performance is transformed.

The thicker spine of a sabre grind adds strength but my knife is a cutting tool not a prying tool...

Ben

My Endura 4 I purchased this week is the Saber grind. I love it. I think what I like about it over FFG is what you stated, the thickness. If I went smaller like a Delica, I would probably prefer FFG. Given the size of the Endura I am more than happy with the Saber grind.

If the Sabre grind suits you better that's awesome - the terrific thing about Spyderco is that Sal and his team give us so much choice even within a specific model (handle material & colours, different steels, different blade combos - plain, serrated, partial serrated, etc.)

I am sure your Endura will serve you well! ;)

Ben

I am totally sold on Spyderco. While this Endura is all I need, I see myself going headlong into their catalog regardless of its effect on my wallet:)

Oh yeah, whilst I have other folders from several other companies my Spydies are the largest part of my folder collection :o;

Endura 4 - VG10 Satin blade, Brown FRN scales
Endura 4 - ZDP189 Satin blade, Green FRN scales
Dragonfly - VG10 Satin blade, Stainless scales
Gayle Bradley - M4 Satin blade, Carbon fibre scales
Junior Dialex - VG10 Satin blade, Black G10 scales
Techno - CTS XHP Satin blade, Ti scales
Tenacious - 8Cr13MoV Satin blade, Green G10 scales
UKPK - S30V Satin blade, Green G10 scales

I know this is small-fry compared to most people's collections here on the forum but these are the 8 (out of my 19 folders) that I have hung onto :D- I have given about the same number away to friends and family!

Enjoy the journey...

Ben

Really not much more to add other than another +1 admiration for the Endura. It was my 3rd or so Spyderco and I carried it a while, wandered around with some others, and them came back to it shortly thereafter and have EDC'd one for almost 8 years now. G-10 E4 since they were released.

Nice shot Simple Man! I do love that foliage green G10 - it looks the same as my UKPK & damn I love that colour & material combo.

Gotta keep my eyes peeled for one of these!

The blue Endura 4 was my first quality knife purchase. Before that (don't tell anyone) I had a Gerber Instant and Smith and Wesson big metal slab thing. I traded those off for next to nothing, which is their actual value. The amazing quality of the Endura has made buying more knives hard. The value is extreme and that is why the Ednura series will continue to live on.

My brother is not a knife lover. My uncle asked me what to get him for a B-day and I suggested some knife. Then, he asked what knife. I pulled out my Endura and Spydeco sold two more. My brother has one and my uncle. They both love their new companions. Now, my brother can appreciate a good knife. He carries it all the time.
