Love it…love it not...

A regular No.7 and a No.8 Gardener are just about the right size for me. Wish there were more factory handle options with those two. But I'm being picky. At the end of the day, Opinel offers their knives in a broad range of sizes and the only limitation is the end user's imagination and modification skill, should they so desire.

Always been a fan since I first encountered them in the 70s. Never been out of love with them either:D Incredibly good in the hand, not heavy, many sizes, choice of handles ( I have a fillet one with Horn handle) both the stainless and the carbon are fine, thin slicer, genius simplicity: won't bust your fingernail or take your finger off:thumbup:

Authentic. That's love:cool:

In moments of semi madness, I've actually looked at the horn handle number 8 and been tempted. How is the horn when it gets exposed to water? Once I got used to my horn handle resolza, I started to look at the horn number 8 more and more.

Actually, I've not used the horn one a great deal except for some kitchen duties and I always wipe down the knife after use. It seems tough stuff and is a nice blonde colour with good ageing potential. Most European Horn handled knives are stable and not prone to shrink, this being linerless in the Opinel fashion and made out of horntip is particularly durable. I don't think it would swell up as much as wood Opinels can do though.

I'm saying get one!:D Beautiful stuff:cool:

Thanks, Will

I was not a great fan of these, until our very own Jack Black from the UK sent me a modded Opinel with a mustard patina that looks like Damascus in certain light. Nice stag handles too.

I handled one on a pass around a while back. I liked it but haven't picked one up yet. Just being lazy and I have too many knives already I guess.

My latest opinel. Shaved the handle down, trimmed the blade a bit so it doesn't have an upsweep, blackened the blade, and sealed the handle with tung oil. Also touched up the blade to a shaving sharp edge.
