I profiled this out of some 1/8" 1095 from Aldo.

4" blade, 4 3/8" handle.

It will have a nearly flat full convex when finished.

What do you think?

I like it a lot. It looks like a very useful design. I would like to see the finished product.

Looks good so far. I like it.

Are you planing on posting some work-in-progress pics? I'd like to see its progression from where it is now to finished.

simple but would be very functional. looks good.

I like it!:thumbup: I would deepen the forefinger dip in the handle contour, but that's personal preference.

I was trying to go for a simple woods utility blade. If it's OK I'll definitely post some progress pics. I also thought about making the finger dip deeper ... that might still happen.

Hi all,

Brian, I am one that likes a little deeper finger notched area, but not all are. It just feels a little more secure in my hands and to my way of thinking.
I know I would like to see your progress and I bet most would to.

It looks like you are off to a good start though.

Bryan

Clean design lines, handle looks comfortable in multiple holding positions - really don't like deep finger notched areas as they lock the hand in one position (ans safety is not an issue for me) , spear point blade is just the way I like it.
One word: beautiful! Looks like you're really onto something. Keep us updated.

You're off to a great start, Brian! I look forward to seeing your progress and am interested to see what sort of handle you put on her...

Regards,

Brett

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Ryanol .... I don't think this one will have a swedge. I want to keep as much tip strength and surface area as I can for light batonning.

I did make the finger notch a little deeper but not much at all.

It will definitely have a fat handle put on it and most likely it will be Micarta.

Here are some more pictures after the first rough grind, pin holes and skeletonizing.

I'll probably do some more skeletonizing.

I like it Brian and I love that it doesn't have a guard. I like a little longer handle on a 4" blade but that just personal preference. Good work my friend! The subtle curve of the spine really looks to be comfortable as well.
