Hello people
My first "quality" knife was a Benchmade Mini Griptilian 556 but it was only a few months later that i found that there was a sweet thing like the Griptilian RSK MK1, the better known Doug Ritter Griptilian!
I first saw this model on a pic where there was a large Ritter with Kevin Wilkins scales.
For the ones that don't know, the Ritter has the same handle of any regular griptilian.
The packaging, the pocket clip and the laser cutter, high flat grind, stonewashed, s30v blade...Ooooooohhhh...the blade, is what sets it apart from the regular models.
Instead of the blue benchmade box, the Ritter version comes in black.
Even though the clip looks the same, on this model it is black anodized instead of being painted in black wich gives it a more pleasing look throughout the years.
However to me it really doesn't matter because they come off of every folder i buy
When i got the mini black one i always had that pic in my thoughts so it was already set in my mind that when i get it i would buy me a Wilkins set.
It made all the difference in the world.
You see, even though i consider myself having medium/small hands, when holding it, the pinky seems to slip out of place sometimes.
That doesn't happen with the custom scales
The scales made it all much stronger and gave it a nicer feel in the hand.
I don't dislike the original scales on the mini grip, i believe they're great for the knife but that doesn't happen when we're talking about the larger model!
When flicking open the larger one and also when closing single-handedly you can hear a loud snap that always annoyed me.
This happens because unlike the mini, the steel liners on the regular version don't extend all the way through to the end of the handle giving the knife a more hollow feeling.
So what did i do to fix this?
BaBlaaaammmm...other set of Wilkinsgrips:lol:
I know that this may be expensive or even futile of me but it has fixed the noise problem and the knife feels A LOT better now!
The sad thing is that Kevin Wilkins isn't making them anymore!
So, in conclusion, with the scales it makes the knife seem like a semi-custom folder you can have on you for the hardest chores but even without them it is an outstanding knife that doesn't seem to get the attention it deserves.
However, it only seems fit, to me, to buy the grips for this version, don't know why
Along with my Sebenza and my XM-18 these knives are the ones i have most joy owning.
They're really that good!
Love me my Ritters:thumbup:
