Woah, why the heck did I wait so long to buy a bk16? This blade just feels like it is the perfect size. It is probably the handiest lightest blade that I have owned. I was pleasantly surprised by the sheath. I am looking forward to bringing it hunting with me, and bet that front pocket will come in handy. I did not like the rough coating on the blade and the edge although sharp had pretty deep grind marks and could use some improvement. I don't consider a knife mine until I sharpen it anyhow so I had to get right at it!

Mods I've done:
-Sanded the finish on the blade completely smooth (usually I'd completely remove it, but I like it on this blade for some reason)
-Convexed the edge to hair shaving sharp
-Sanded the edge of the spine to allow fire steel striking
-Stippled the brown scales and put them on

I LOVE THIS BLADE! Do not hesitate to buy one if you are still considering it. You will find it to be a very light and practical blade. I have a feeling this knife will be at my side this hunting season and many to follow.

Looks good. I'm not a fan of the rough surface and thought about sanding but hesitated. Looking at yours I don't see a reason why not.

Heheh, another BK-16 discovery. it's a SWEET knife, eh?
Love what you did with the scales. Classy.

I will ditto this.

That 16 looks sweet!

Warrior,
Thank you sir.

cEdge, zakjak & TBL,
Do it, you won't regret it!

daizee,
Thank you for the kind words. I'm very impressed with this knife and the little touches to make it my own just make it perfect for me.

damn delayed double tap...won't waste it though...

While I have a wish list of mods to do but so little time, I want to make some scales. Made some crashcarta but the stippled scales look great

I like your mods. Yes, the 16 is a wonderfully versatile blade, and my favorite. Please post pics of it when you get some field time.

Great job on the stippling. Did that to mine as well, and it made a world of difference. It's an awesome knife, enjoy it!

Now all you need is a 9 and a little time to go out and conquer the world!
Congrats on a great new addition!

Yep...Quickly becoming my new bestest knife.....Just had it a couple of weeks now. Thinking on getting another one to strip and mod...Just going to leave the original one as it came.

Dex,
Thank you. I usually like to just strip the blade but for some reason the black just looked right.

Alex,
You know I will! I should have it out in the woods this weekend so I'll snap some shots.

Aiki,
Thank you very much. I love stippling. There is nothing quite like a stippled grip.

rkmoore,
Thank you. Honestly I love my BK2 as my larger guy. I have it convexed and it's awesome. A 9 would be great to do some chopping but I don't see myself carrying it around all that often.

Low,
That's awesome. I agree that they come great. I just know what I like and you can't beat the value of Becker. Great steel, great designs, awesome CS!

LG&M,
Thank you and yes sir!

They are a great blade. Congratulations😀
Could you share how did the sanding, what grit?

Thank you Cryptyc :P my hands are a little sore today.... but I did end up with this...

apparently you can polish the coating :D

mchipman,
Thank you. Since I didn't want to remove much of the coating just polish it smooth I went with 400grit with light pressure then after that smoothed out I went to 600grit. It did not take long since I was only trying to sand it smooth. I then did some final smoothing work with 1500grit. The coating is slick as silk and still provides protection for my steel.

TBL,
Damn fine job there!!!! What grit did you end up using?

I completely agree; the BK-16 is one of the finest production "general-purpose" knives ever made. It's got everything you need and nothing you don't... it's also a heckuva bargain.

Lovely work on the scales and finish, too. :)
