Love of knives and GEC

Yes 4 -1/8th... I started to really like that pattern as I got older. Now it's one of my favorites.

Build quality on those looks fantastic, what era are they from? I'm a noob when it comes to most classic US slipjoints.

Both are current production.

Case has a few patterns that they do very well and the Trapper is one of them.
I don't think I've ever gotten a Trapper ( or large Stockman) that had QC issues.

My biggest complaint is the shields, I wish they were pinned instead of glued.

GEC is an interesting story. I noticed them around 2007 and started buying them on the bay. Many could be had in the $40 to $50 range. I have a hoard of tubes with mint models that I seldom look at or count. Keep in mind, these are not the latest patterns, but basically the same product. I also got some later offerings but slammed on the brakes when prices went schizoid.

You actually accomplished what I intended to do years ago, get one GEC user and quit. Good job.

I find it funny that people will be pissed at someone asking such high prices, yet no mention of said buyer 🤣
I'm not 'pissed' at anyone. This isn't something that provokes me to be angry. I'm simply curious about it. GEC knives,.in my opinion, seem to be a well made practical knife that's meant to be used instead of hidden away in a keepsakes box. At least that's the impression I get, maybe I'm wrong. I grew up on a farm in rural Alabama and everyone over the age of five was an avid outdoorsman and especially loved to hunt. Everyone I knew could have easily found a thousand reasons a day to use a knife and these are the kind of people that could benefit from having not just a knife but a good quality knife....but no one in town could have afforded one of these knives that ironically seem to be made for people like them. Im not 'pissed' at all. Just curious who is actually shelling out such high amounts of money for such practical hard working knives. That's all.

I like GEC knives but the feeding frenzy to score one isn’t usually worth it to me.

Honestly, Rough Rider Reserve is making traditional patterns that give GEC CASE a real run on the quality side for 1/3 the price.
Ah, someone wrote most of my opinion for me. Thanks.

As I mentioned above, they weren't as popular 10 or so years ago. Some dealers that I would buy from don't carry them any more.

GEC is a smaller manufacturer and has limited output. They don't plan on significantly increasing production and unfortunately, for unknown reasons, they've become hot collectibles.

Technically you can still buy them for MRSP, the problem is they sell out in seconds, so they get marked up on the secondary market.

I got a notification from a vendor the other day, I happened to be checking my email when it popped up, the knives were already sold out when I clicked the link.
The last GEC I bought through a dealer was a Remington branded Trapper for $175. I was able to buy it because it's not that desirable to the GEC collectors.

While I can afford to pay the secondary market prices, I refuse to. I don't want them that bad.

At least 5 or 6 years ago, after breakfast at the Hummingbird Cafe in Tidioute, Pa, I ended up in a flea market type store across the street. Under a glass counter they had a display of nice, locally made pocket knives. (GEC anybody?) If I remember correctly they were in the $50.00 to $60.00 range. Not knowing what I know now, I passed on buying any.

Ironically I used to pass on any acrylic or bone handled GECS and buy the more expensive stag..... $99 - $110
