I finally bought one yesterday at a sporting goods store and am quite pleased. I haven't bought a knife in approximately a year, and don't plan to buy anymore knives this year. It's definitely got features I always wished the older Delica had. I realize some people prefer the older 3 version, but for myself, the 4 is quite an improvement.
The version I have is CE; not my original choice, but I have no problems with it. It's a good little all-around knife, and mine has zero blade play and has apparently flawless action. Having had to slice up some heavy cardboard for the recycle bin, the knife felt more stable and supported in use than my D3 and even my E3. The steel liners may seem thin and flimsy-looking, but IMO that and the screw construction certainly reinforce it during cutting which puts a good amount of pressure against the edge. I felt none of the wiggle I often do when heavy cutting with my D3/E3 versions. I do wish the saber grind was a little higher up, like on the D3, but otherwise, congratulations, Spyderco!
