Passed down my Native to my son for a lightweight EDC at Boyscouts last weekend. I missed it so much this week I went and bought another for myself today. :D He used his all week camping at the local Boyscout Reservation. He loves it. So this is my first Spydie. I am looking to get a medium-size light weight drop point liner lock to replace a Benchmade 3.4" blade: any suggestions on which Spyderco to get to replace it?

The Native is an excellent choice. Good all around knife. My favorite.

I'm developing a small addiction with natives. Not nearly as bad as pkdmslf :D
but aspire to get there someday.

For some reason, Spyderco doesn't have a whole lot of knives with that size blade, and they make very few liner lock knives altogether.

The Paramilitary is definitely worth a look.

Yeah, Para is definitely worth a look, just got one and it's been in my pocket all week (displacing my caly3 or D4W, or kershaw leek). Got a tenacious SE on the way so I can't say much about that. I really like the compression lock tho' was a little weird at first but it just became second nature immediately.

I've been looking at the Para for a couple weeks now,but I really wish that I could see a comparison pic, with the Caly 3. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but looking
on the web, the Para looks to me like a Caly, with a longer handle.
Is there more to the Para that I'm missing?

Well, off the top of my head, the Para has a thicker 4mm blade of S30V, plus the lock is a compression lock. Overall, the Para is a heavier duty knife.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Sage. It comes in a liner lock, and if you liked the Native, the Sage should fit you nicely.

A.P.F. Thanks for top of the head review! That's good enough by me:thumbup: :D

The Native is perfect. I usually carry two knives, the Native and a spare because I always seem to set the Native down and walk off forgetting it. I should just get a second Native and carry two of them.

The only way to possibly improve the Native is to add a compression lock to make it quicker and easier to fold up.

Thanks for the input. Looking at the Para, Sage, and Tenacious, even the Caly3. My son told me he always completed knife tasks faster than other boyscouts next to him with the hair-popping edge I put on the Native before I gave it to him. Whowouldathunkit? Now I'm teaching him how to use a red DMT to hone with and the back of his leather belt to strop in the field, instead of a simple pocket whetstone.

Hopefully within the next month or two the new Native IV will be out. Carbon fiber handles, SS liners, screw construction and full flat ground VG-10 blade.
